Fear Image Encourages Reds9 By Julie Morris Senior Staff Writer The wife of the president of Nationalist China said in Lincoln Thursday that the United States presents "an image of fear to the Chinese Communists which encourag es their planned military world expansionism." Madame Chiang Kai-Shek said, "It is unfortunate that on matters of foreign policy, the United States conveys to neutrals, skeptics, fencesitt ers, as well as the Chinese Communists, an image of fear through using what might be described as timid ity and a technique of push, pull, ... in dealing with the Chinese Communists." In an hour-long address at the all-student convocation, Madame Chiang said the present terrorist activities within Red China and the purge of "hard-core Commu nist Party members" is evi dence of Communist China's plan to enslave the world She indicated that the purge of the party's own members may mean the regime may be destroyed from within. "I think this is the begin ning of the end" for the Mao regime, Madame Chiang said at a press conference follow ing the convocation. She re ferred to Mao Tse-tung, the leader of Communist China. Madame Chiang, on the last lap of a year long visit in the country, said the answer to the problem of Red China is to "bash in the door with ENGINEERS Natural Gas Pipeline Company one of America's largest transmission firms has positions for engineers at its Chicago office headquarters and at field locations in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Okla homa, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas. NGPL transmits natural gas from produc ing fields to distributor-customers in the Midwest. The Company serves, directly or indirectly, more than nine million persons five per cent of the U.S. population with natural gas. The "anti-Maoist thinking group" within Red China, Madame Chiang continued, has permeated the party, the administration and the armed forces." The "secret weapon" of the Communist Chinese, Madame Chiang said, is the 750 mil lion population of China. "To the Maoists, a man who is prepared to die or be forced to die for Mao Ts tung's thinking is more effec tive than an American or Russian imperialist equipped with the most up-to-date wea ponry," Madame Chiang said. Madame Chiang arrived in Lincoln Wednesday and de parted Thursday. She was given a key to the city, made an admiral in the Nebraska Navy and presented an hon orary degree of Doctor of Hu man Letters by Nebraska Wesleyan. Election preparations will include orientations presented by AWS Board members and representatives to every campus living unit Oct. 10 14, Miss May explained' Women will be informed of the philosophy behind t h e constitutional changes and the contents of the revised by laws. Miss May added that the Board members will also stress to coeds the impor tance of participating in the election. The ballot will be comprised of four main sections of changes to be voted upon. They include election proced ures, initiative and referen dum, recall and structure changes, Miss May stated. "The change in election procedure is the most impor tant revision which was made," Miss May stressed, "because formerly the main criticism which Unicersity women made about AWS was that the Board was untouch able." Miss May noted that if the constitution election changes are approved, either a nom ination by AWS Board mem bers or a petition signed by three per cent of the Univer sity women will enable a co ed to be slated for a posi tion on AWS Board. "Previously only the AWS Board members had the au thority to slate candidates for election," Miss May said, Utilizing initiative and ref erendum changes, w o m e n, obtaining a petition signed by three percent of the Univer sity coeds, would be able to bring an item before AWS Board to be reconsidered or to be adopted, Miss May continued. An approval of recall re visions would give women au thority to remove an AWS Mon. "Only the judicial area or program area of AWS were invested with the power to remove Board members be fore this addition was made," noted Miss May. Miss May declared that these revisions are not the only changes which will be made in the AWS Constitu tion. "These first steps of revi sion were made in order to allow AWS to aork more ef fectively this year," Miss May explained. Friday A.PH.A., 1:30 p.m., Nebras ka Union.
