Win 'em All
By Rob Flasnick
The Nebraska and Utah State football teams won't be
the only people playing in Memorial Stadium Saturday.
There will be also 2,300 high school musicians Warring out
with a traditional Band Day performance.
The concept of a Band Day originated at Nebraska
back in 1939 and since that time has spread nationwide.
Donald A. Lcntz, now Director of Rands at the University,
was the man responsible for organizing Nebraska's first
Band Day.
The idea behind it was to attract a larger crowd for
Memorial Stadium. Since its conception back in '39 and
during the years when Nebraska football wasn't that good.
Band Day has been successful in attracting a lot of people,
who would otherwise not attend to watch Nebraska plaj
football. , ...
But times have changed. Nebraska now plays to a full
house nearly every game, and in case you didn't know,
Band Dav has been changed this year too.
The high school bands will inarch in a downtown,
parade and play concert style from stadium seats, but.
their will be no marching or formations on the field. And
that's what has been most popular with Band Day custom-,
ers in the past.
The reasons reportedly behind the new move are dam-

Huskers To Face Utah State
A Band Day crowd of
over 63,000 is expected to
be on hand Saturday to
watch Nebraska take on
a pass-happy Utah State
team in Memorial Stadium.
Directing the Aggies' aer

back Ron Edwards ; his pri
mary receiver is flanker
back Dave Clark. Each

touchdown pass or Clark

The Daily Nebraskan Sports Page is using the Tom
Harmon Football Forecast this year. The second install
ment of Harmon's forecast appears in today's edition.
The September 24th forecast also ranks the nations top
twenty teams, and if you will inspect it closely you will
find Nebraska in 14th place. If we hadn't already paid
good money for it, we might consider dropping the fore
cdst But 14th place really isn't that bad, and if Nebraska is
impressive throughout the rest of the season, it will be fun
to watch the Cornhuskers climb up the ladder.
Coach Bob Devaney got to know Saturday's foe. Utah
State, quite well when he was coaching at Wyoming.
Quips Devaney "When we were at Wyoming we almost
beat Utah State once by using a single wing shift.
"They got penalized three times for being offside and
once for having 12 nen on the field the 12th being the
coach after the third offside penalty. We may employ that
strategy again, I'm not sure."
