Sororities
Put Girls
In Dorms
A recommendation for se
lection of sorority girls to live
in dormitories next semester
was passed by Panheilenic
Monday.
Proposed by the Alumnae
Advisory Board of Panhei
lenic, the recommendation
states that in houses where
there is not enough room for
all girls, "any girls who pre
fer to live in the dormitories
be given first choice, and then
the division between soph
omores and juniors be made
equally with girls drawing
lots for places." This would
exclude officers of the house.
The recommendation was
passed with some opposition
from sororities that have al
ready decided on a different
policy for selecting dorm
dwellers. However, E r m a
Winterer, president of Pan
heilenic, suggested that as
far as possible, all houses
have a uniform policy.
Proposed revisions of t h e
Panheilenic constitution were
read by Jennifer Marshal, a
member of the constitution
committee. The changes will
be voted on in two weeks.
The changes include a re
organization of committees,
and a new method of rota
tion for offices other than the
presidency. The rotation pro
posed follows a pattern ac
cording to the founding dates
of sororities on campus.

Regulations Changing'
"The reasoning behind
AWS rules and regulations
seems to be changing," ac
cording to Pam Hedgecock,
president.
"In the past, AWS r n 1 1 1
were justified for protection
of the girls," she said. "Now
the reasoning seems to be
more along the line of the
convenience of the girl, plus
the factors of administrative
safety and efficiency."
The AWS Board members
Tuesday discussed the demer
it system, as to its basis
and suggested alternations.
Members of the AWS House
of Representative and AWS
Workers Council are current
ly discussing the demerit sys-
ciety; and Kent Neumeister,
ASUN president.
The idea of the seminar is
to promote discussion on stu
dent rights and responsibili
ties, according to Jim Arun
del, chairman.
Primarily intended for
freshmen and sophomores,
the seminar was planned to
alleviate the "isolation and
confusion" concerning cam
pus affairs.
Each of the four speakers
will present specific points of
view in ten-minute speeches.
They will be followed by
questions and debate from the
audience or other panel
members.

ions toward the present de

The girls discussed wheth
er demierits should be erased
at the end of the semester,
or whether the number of de
merits given before a cam
pus should be increased.
The number of out-of-towns
allotted to girls was also dis
cussed. One member felt that
girls desire more than the
present six per year.
Diane McConnell said that
at one time over-night re
strictions were made to keep
girls on campus for campus
events, but said some girls
questioned if this was still
valid basis for the ruling.
Another Board member,
Nancy Coufal, noted that as
many week-ends to home as
are requested by a girl are
given, thus the "keeping girls
close to campus for campus
events" reasoning should not
hold.
