Nebraska Frosh Swimmers
Finish Third In Loop Postal
Combining with the fourth
place conference showing of
the young varsity swimmers
to make hopes for next sea
son run high was last week
end's third place finish by
XU frosh in the Big Eight
freshman postal swim.
The biggest splash came
from Husker yearling K e n
Glasser. He topped previous
records in both the 100 and
200 yard breaststroke, doing
the 100 in 1:03.7 and the 200
in 2:18.9.
The University of Oklahoma
made it a clean sweep of Big
Eight Conference swimming
honors this year with an over
whelming win in the Confer
ence freshman postal meet.
Picking up seven of 12 new-
records, Oklahoma rolled to
14412 points in a meet that
included entries filed from all
eight members for the first
time. Kansas was a distant
second with 81'i markers.
Nebraska was third with 41.;
followed by Iowa State, Okla
noma State, Kansas State
Colorado and Missouri.
the 1650 freestyle event
Iowa State's Jim Cotsworth
also copped a record. Cotsr
worth took his record in the
100 (:54.5) and 200 (2:01.1)
butterfly.
Kansas State's Hugh L i s -
ton, who earlier this year set
a national collegiate freshman
record of :27.1 in the 60-yard
freestyle, got the twelfth new
record of the meet in the 50
freestyle with a :22.0. He also
won the 100 freestyle.
The times by Liston in the
50, Cotsworth in the 100 and
200 butterfly, Glasser in the
200 breaststroke, and Schober
in the 100 backstroke are all
better than the current var
sity records in the events.
Schober's mark in the 200
backstroke was also better
than the winning varsity time
this year.
