So go the lyrics to a popu lar song which happens to be applicable to the Nebraska basketball team and its fan tastic ability to lose on the road. The Cornhuskers lost their sixth game in a row, and their eighth out of eight starts on the road. This time the perpetrator of the jinx was Oklahoma by the score of 89 82. The Sooners were led by Bill Whitlock the springy and aggressvie 6'3" junior for ward. Whitlock garnered sev en buckets on fourteen at tempts. George Hawkins added eighteen points and Jim Gatewood added a bak er's dozen. There were a couple of bright spots for Coach Joe Cipriano's proteges, however. Fred Hare was having a good night from the floor as he canned eight for sixteen shots and hit six for seven from the charity stripe. Bob Antulov recovered from his minor injury enough to flip in thirteen points on six for eight from the floor, and Grant Simmons collected ele ven points on four out of fif teen field goal attempts, and three free throws. The brightest star in the Cornhusker sky was the thir teen points and team-leading seven rebounds garnered by Willie Campbell. Some Coli seum regulars have hoped that Campbell would catch fire and give the Huskers some needed additional strength at the post position. The Huskers' next game is at home against Iowa State Monday, Jan. 18. I took up boomerang throwing. It was a typical windy Nebraska day the day a girl friend and I decided to invest in a boomerang and try our hand at the art. My first throw sailed through the air . . . and sailed . . . and kept on sailing until it came to rest on the ground about 25 yards away. My next throw was caughj,by the wind and caused a mild stampede among the small group of cattle grazing nearby. Georgene made a few more attempts and then I de cided it was going to be a "do or die" effort. I took the boomerang and threw with all my strength, sending it off with a twist of the wrist. It not only stopped itself in midair, but while we were rejoicing in this accomplishment, it started its home ward journey. "Georgene!" I yelled. She ducked just as the boom erang sailed right where her head had been. Next time I think I'll invite the person responsible for the final exam schedule to go boomeranging with me. Congratulations! Several members of the. Nebraska Big Eight football championship team represented the Huskers in splendid fashion this past weekend. Kent McCloughan started for the North team in the Hula Bowl and turned in some fine runs for them plus making a nice catch during the second half that counted for a critical first down. Bob Hohn proved to the nation why he has been termed as the best blocking back in the country during the Senior Bowl. And Larry Kramer lived up to his all-America tackle honors in the same game as he played the whole game on offense. The Oakland (AFL) public ity director said of the sign ing,, "He stopped by and signed on his way home af ter the Hula Bowl. He decid ed to pass up his track eligi bility because of the risk of injury and because he said he was under pressure from the National Football League to sign with them." Track coach Frank Sevigne was naturally peeved at the professionals' pirating of col lege football stars. "There's a lot to be said, he declared, "but the best thing to do is to leave it un said." Concerning the prospects for the upcoming track season, nnp fif the toughest trios ev er to crunch the cinders in the Husker history, Lynn Headley, Charlie Greene, and McCloughan, has now been reduced in potential, but Se vigne said of this: "We're not going to lay down and play dead. "I think", he went on to say, "the day of loyalty and so forth is forgotten. It's just a matter of dollars and cent? today." IM Standings LEAGUE 1 A PW Karma Pi r Sigma Phi Ep. .
