Huskeirs Drop Pass Defense Lead
epartmentts
Burt Sol Head tn
Kansas City, Mo. Colo
rado, giving up but 109 yards
passing the last two weeks,
has slipped past Nebraska in
the Big Eight Conference's
passing defense division to
break the CornhusRers' mon
opoly on all team statistical
leads.
The Buff secondary first
held Oklahoma to only 19 aer
ial yards and then came back
to put the clamps on Gary
Lane and his Missouri receiv
ers last week to run its sea
son average to just 71.3.
Nebraska, facing teams
forced to the air against a
stubborn front wall, has al
lowed 193 passing in the last
two outings, losing its last
week's lead and slipping to
76.3.
However, the Cornhusker
line continues to be impreg
nable, holding Kansas' talent
ed rushers to 101 yards, uv
eluding a season's low of 27
by the Jayhawkers' Gale Say
ers. In the past four games,
Nebraska has given up but
229 yards rushing, an all-time
best for the Big Eight. Its sea
son average is now 72.9.
The story is the same in of
fense, where the Cornhuskers
continue to hold good leads in
all three departments, Ne
braska's bulge In rushing of
fense is 25 yards over Okla
homa. The passing lead was
stretched to almost 33 yards
over Oklahoma State Ne
braska, with 984 through the
air this year, has gained
more than it did passing all
last year and the total of
fense is a very comfortable
65, 362 to 297.5 over Okla
homa. The 362 average is still
above last year's pace for Nebraska.

Denotes Forfeit
rood awakening
By Mick Rood
It looks as if the Sooners will have the privilege of
digging into campaign-suppressed hate literature Novem
Party hasn't had to resort to his little black book . . . ex
ber 21. The devious "permanent spokesman" of the Husker
cept for the first few rather mild pages.
The Freeman White passing scandal and the double wing
episode against the Gopher Party were just a hint of what
the Husker propaganda machine is capable of.
As for straight stuff, or the real campaign issues. The
defense has improved, their secondary has tightened up,
Huskers haven't been able to hide the fact that their pass
while their ground game remains lethal. Oklahoma State
should succumb to the straight stuff this Saturday.
But the following week, Coach Devaney may have to
resort to his little black book again. Devious means are the
only means that will defeat Oklahoma in Norman.
Nationally, the little-black-book method has been used
liberally and as a result no team and no rating lasts more
than two weeks. This writer has his own little book and the
top ten looks more like this:
1) Notre Dame 2) Nebraska 3) Alabama 4) Arkansas 5)
Michigan 6) Texas 7) Georgia Tech 8) Ohio State 9) LSU
10) Oregon State.
Meanwhile back in Lincoln . . . The Cowboys had their
fun last year and the Huskers are due for a better game.
Last home game and all that rot. It'll be NEBRASKA 28,
OKLAHOMA STATE 8.
The usual mistakes: Iowa State 14 over Kansas State;
Kansas 21 over Colorado; Missouri down by 1 to Oklahoma;
Illinois 13 over Wisconsin; Oregon 1 over Indiana; Michi
gan 10 over Iowa; Minnesota 1 over Purdue; Notre Dame
7 over Michigan State.
