Mike joins co-defensive end Langston Coleman in t h e Headline! ranks. Grace's steady play each week has kept him in constant conten tion for the award. Grace, along with Mike Kennedy, 1$ e r n I e McGinn, John S t r o h in e y e r, Walt Barnes, and the rest of t h e now-f anion s Black Shirts helped to hold Colorado's rush ing to a minus-yardage total. Mike is a six-foot two-i rich sophomore from Sioux City, Iowa, and is a former h i g h school All-America. Besides Ins stellar defense against the Buffaloes, Mike pounced on a Colorado fumble late in the third period Sat urday and set up a Nebras ka touchdown. Grace was elected lineman of the game by attending sportswrite'rs, and was a nom inee for Lineman of the Week by the Associated Press. . . Sittler Wants To Disprove Forecasters Part of being Nebraska's co-captain entails a little extra hard work to set the example for younger squad men. But Lyle Sittler didn't have to change his attitude along those lines when elected the honor this fall along with halfback Bob Hohn. The 229-pound All Big Eight prospect has al ways given that little ex tra. Sittler, the starting center on offense, did miss one week of practice this year because of a bout with the flu. But Student Health re leased him just in time Fri day for him to catch the plane for Minneapolis where he saw considerable duty in the 26-21 win over Minne sota. Aside from that time, Sittler has always been one to set a spark during the week for upcoming games and adds to it on the field. "I just hustle all the time and try to keep the chatter going, he says. "Everybody is sort of dragging on Tues day and Wednesdays when practice runs a little longer so you just try to keep them going all the time by going hard all the time yourself." With the league frontrun ners Missouri, Kansas, Ok lahoma State, and Okla homa scheduled for suc cessive weeks, Sittler is thanking Colorado for help ing the Huskers get set for the Tigers this Saturday. "We beat Colorado (21-3), but we couldn't move the hall like we have been," Sittler says. "At last Mon day's practice, everyone was sort of quiet. You could tell everybody was getting themselves up for Missou ri." Hoping to fool the fore casters who figured Nebras ka for only seven wins this & 1 """"Is I"1' " 1 flj.il ' r I ''I ii'i. A senior, Sittler alterna ted with Ron Michka last year after playing in the 1960 Shrine Bowl Game and gaining All-State mention at Crete High. . . Missouri's vicious Tigers enter the fray tomorrow in an unfamiliar position. They are considered underdogs, or at least "undertigers". Missouri has only a 4-2 won loss record, having dropped a 14-21 decision to California. and a 7-10 shocker to Okla homa State. Missouri ent ered I lie fall campaign after losing six out of seven line men from last year's first team. Their back field, however, is extremely talanted and deep. Gary Lane, returning all-Big Eight quarterback, who led the con ference in passing and total offense last year as a rookie, is again at the head of both departments. The 209-pound junior rolls out on (he run-pass option, and more often than not, he deficts the adage that a quar terback should run only if there Is nothing else to do, and he runs as a definite part of the Missouri ground at tack. Johnny Roland is back this fall after a season's rest. Re ports from Missouri said Jie was TIRED. All-Conference as a sophomore, Roland is a much respected back. He has been playing defensive half back the greater part of this fall. Nebraska fans will remem ber Kenny Boston as the man who scored both Mizzou touch downs against the Huskers last fall in the 13-12 scrape at Columbia. Boston runs out of the right halfback slot. This will be the Husker's toughest contest yet, but if the Black Shirts can put thu pressure on Lane and at tho same time control Reese, Denny, Brown and company, the Tigers can be tamed. Executive Director Wayne Duke said the series will open January 9 with Nebraska at Oklahoma State and close March 6, a week before the NCAA regional tournament at Kansas State, with co-favor ites Oklahoma State and Kan sas meeting at Lawrence. Big Light basketball was last televised on a regular ba sis during the l!)59-f0 season and as part of a three-confer ence network the following year, but has not been tele vised the past three seasons, except for special games. We are pleased to return Big Eight basketball to tele vision in view of the tremen dous interest evidenced in the upcoming Conference race," Duke said. Duke said the series should be "excellent TV bill of fare", in that the Big Eight has had a team ranked among the top 10 nationally in 11 of the past 14 years and has won 17 re gional titles in the 26-year history of the NCAA tourna ment.
