A nutrition study by Janice Leno, an Oklahoma State Uni versity graduate student, has brought to light the fact that while men snack more than women, the ladies tend to gain more weight from their be tween meals eating habits. "Snacks play an important part in the diets of college stu dents," says Miss Leno, who holds a masters degree in looa ana nutrition Twenty-six men and 102 women students used to make the study showed that while the men averaged 15 per cent of their total calories from snacking compared to the women's 13 per cent more of tne men stayed within their desired weight range. Eighty- eignt per cent of the men "DACRON" makes the campus scene with Higgins and the combination is Big On Any Campus. The picture is not complete ly black, for while these snacks don't help the curves they do seem to help the diet. They provide such nutrients as calcium, Vitamin A and ascorbic acid and contribute to general good nutrition for students. The diets of both groups making the test showed that they were in the safe nutrition al range and both met two thirds of the recommended uaily dietary allowances. How ever, the women's iron intake was only 67 per cent of the allowance. The study also showed a re lationship between good eat ing and good grade averages.
