As usual Nebraska fans can wait until the second
game on the schedule to find out what Is still unknown
will the team win or lose this year? The scheduling night
mare set up for Nebraska's medicore 50's essemblages
ends next year when Texas Chrissian invades. Really
fantastic . . . some of the teams the big mean Huskers
have been cafin;: alive on opening Saturdays recently.
Speaking of fantastic, Playboy Magazine contributed
something from that realm just recently. Nebraska is top
ten nationally according to the skin-lovers. Although real
ity may treat the magazine's prediction roughly, there

less all the Big Eight teams picked last Saturday for their
bad day, Nebraska's well-advertised fourth place fate is
the forecasters' bad pick.
Let's look at the Big Eight through my slightly tar
nished crystal ball. Peering through the ominous fog, we
see what has been here called the great white phantom
that haunts the Big Eight. Oklahoma returns with every
thing but that politician who used to frown all week and
smile on Saturdays. They'll whip everyone just like old
times. At least that's what suppose to happen. Not so.
Missouri or Kansas will top the Sooners this year . . .
not Nebraska. Grisham and the fellers remember last
year and Huskers should be well matched. Give Gomer
at Norman one loss in the conference for his inaugural.
Nebraska and Missouri should tie for second, but watch a
Husker tie for the top. The key game being the Tiger
visit to Memorial Stadium late in October.
Prediction: Missouri will fall to Nebraska again this
year, uevs lace it, Devine doesn't have the defense he
usea to.
Coach Bob Devaney probably wished the Coyotes
would have gotten excited and put the ball in the air last
week. Quarterback Gephart, who came billed as a passer,
tried one aerial leaving the previously medicore Scarlet
pass defense untested. Meanwhile the misplaced visitors
romped and stomped nowhere all afternoon.
Kick-off and punt return coverage plus shoddy block
ing were hangovers from the first one. Cures should take
this week in practice. Fred Duda should calm down by
the time he reaches Gopherland this weekend. This and
the Iowa State game have to be the key games of the sea
son beside the Tiger clash. If the Scarlet wins by two
touchdowns, loosen up, if not tighten up. Over the tube
