day was Husker Lynn Head
ley. Headley, only a first semes
ter sophomore, had pulled out
a terrific 100-yard dash win
over Olympian Anthony Wat
son of Oklahoma. Headley's
time was a speedy 9.5 one of
his best clockings this year.
The slender speedster hails
from Kingston, Jamaica
where he was encouraged to
attend Nebraska by former
Husker star, Keith Gardner,
who now coaches in Jamaica.
Headley is a versatile per
former whom Coach Frank
Sevinge can look forward to
entering not only in the dash
es, but the hordles and re
lays as well. At Saturday's
championships Headley came
up with third in the inter
mediate hurdles and ran a
leg on tihe , 440 relay which
placed second.

The faculty men decided to
make the official name of the
conference the Big Eight in
stead of the Missouri Valley
Intercollegiate Athletic Asso
ciation. The old name was
never used.
The representatives ap
proved a list of six football
bowl games and established
fixed fees for bowl expenses.
A team invited to the Cot
ton, Orange, Sugar, Gator,
Bluebonnet, and Sun Bowls
after next season can accept
the bid without faculty ap
proval. A fixed fee of 60,000 plus
$8 per mile for the Orange,
Sugar, Cotton and Gator
Bowls was approved and $40,
000 plus $8 per mile was es
tablished for the Bluebonnet
and Sun bowls.
In the past, bowl teams sub
mitted an expense budget. .
The league made no change
in its policy of splitting money
from bowl games eight ways
after expenses.
A special meeting of faculty
men, athletic directors and
football coaches was called
for August 14-15 in Kansas
City to consider proposals in
volving the limits on schol
arships. There have been attempts
by football and basketball
coaches to liberalze the rule.
The rule now provides that,
effective September 1, 1965,
football scholarships must not
exceed $100 and basketball

dates of next year's Big Eight

set later; outdoor track, ten

The pairings for the pre
season basketball tourney at
Kansas City were announced
Kansas State vs. Oklahoma
and Kansas vs. Iowa State on
Dec. 26; Colorado vs. Nebras
ka and Oklahoma State vs.
Missouri on Dec. 28.
Also approved was a pro
posal by Oklahoma State that
a Big Eight traveling sports
manship award for all sports
be set up. The student govern

minister the plan.
The fee for basketball offi
cials was increased from $75
to $85, making the Big Eight
second only to the Big Ten
among college conferences.
A ticket price of five dollars
