Sophomore Fred Duda will be Nebraska's starting quar terback for the third time this season. In his previous two starts, Nebraska mauled Kan sas State 28 to 6 and Kansas 23 to 9 At 186 pounds, starter May nard Smidt of Cozad (left half back) is Nebraska's heaviest backfield man. Bob Hohn will play right halfback, and Brace Smith will play full back. Nebraska g o e s for its sec ond victory against Oklahoma State after its first win last year, 14 to 0 in Lincoln. Join ing the conference in 1960, the Cowboys won the first two en counters. Despite the small backfield, Nebraska outweighs Ok lahoma State 225 to 197 in the line and 234 to 201 tackle-to-tackle. The Cowboy backfield averages 186 pounds per man to 179 for the Huskers. Besides playing without Cla ridge, who has a severe thigh Orange Bowl Fate Rides On Missouri-Oklahoma Tilt Witn the 1963 football sea son drawing to a close, only three teams in the Big Eight are left with a chance to gain the title, Oklahoma, Nebras ka, and Missouri. Even Willie Ross Charley horse, and Johnson, Nebraska's leading ground gainer and scorer (523 yards in 80 carries and 44 points), the Hnskers will also miss tackle Monte Kiffin, who has been injured for three weeks now. Despite scoring 61 points in the last two games, largely because of quarterback Mike Miller, the Cowboys, who have lost all four of their con ference games, are definite underdogs to the league-leading (5 and 0) Cornhuskers. Ne braska still leads the nation in rushing offense (278 yards per game) and is fourth in total offense. Coach Devaney, not a man to look past an opponent, com mented: "Despite the praise from Sooners at Columbia Satur day. The Tigers, minus Monroe Phelps their leading ground gainer will be forced to de pend upon Gary Lanes pass ing game. The Tigers rank third in the Big Eight in pass ing offense. Oklahoma is num ber one passing defense and will be faced with a bombard ment since the Tigers will not have the ground manpower. It is doubtful that the Spon ers leading ground gainer full back Jim -Grisham will be able to play. Grisham has accumulated 573 yards for a 5.5 average. We cannot go out to the Stadium and an nounce to the fans that we have a superb collection of football players and then have the other team drop over. They won't do it ... WE ARE definitely not looking forward to playing Oklahoma. In fact, I'm not looking forward to playing either Oklahoma State or Oklahoma. But the schedule says we've got to play them " Cowboy quarterback Mike Miller, who completed barely 25 of his passes in the first five games (all losses as Okla homa State scored only 20 points), now has completed 37 of 79 for a 46.8 season's com pletion percentage. The Wild cats will be fresh from their seventh straight defeat of the season. Iowa State has split the season with four wins and four defeats.1 For the fifth straight week the Kansas State Wildcats will meet a potential All American Back. The Cyclones invade Lin coln with a 14 to 0 victory over Missouri under their belts. The Husker yearlings, who tromped lighter Kansas State 43 to 22, will attempt to maintain the three game streak started by last year's team and make Melton's mark four for four since tak ing the Scarlet frosh job. Husker weight advantage will be evidenced against the Cyclones 198 in the line giv ing up 16 pounds per man to the Huskers. A light line didn't hamper the first year Cyclones who beat their Tiger counterparts in Ames by more than the score indicates. Missouri, supposedly boast ing the best frosh squad dur ing Dan Devine's Columbia tenure, managed only 24 yards on the ground against the tough Iowans. Quarterbacks Ron Halda and Kip Koski offer a passing threat that Melton can brood about. The two Cyclones pitched for 203 yards against Missouri. Definitely out for the Huskers due to injury are Steve Gun ther, 190-pound . quarterback from LeMars, Iowa, and Tom Smith, 188-pound end from Hastings. Listed as doubtful Is 229-pound guard Harry Meag her of Steubenville, Ohio.
