Basic ideas for the rou

State University, where Caro

CSU pom poms before trans
fering to the University.
The hours spent rehearsing
the routines vary, but aver

also be treated to their routines.

Additional
IFC Rush
Considered
The Interfraternity Council
met Wednesday night in an in
formal meeting at the Sigma
Chi house.
Among the topics discussed
were a better IFC image to
house members and pledges,
scholastic requirements for
rush week eligibility, and the
tentative schedule for a spring
rush week.
At the present time, an en
tering freshman must have
graduated in the top half of
his high school class in order
to participate in rush week.
It was pointed out by mem
bers of IFC that there are
many cases hi which someone
graduating in this group
would be less qualified than
someone in a lower group
from a larger high school.
The institution of a rush
week or week end in the
spring, after first semester
grades are released, would
allow these other men to
pledge if they had made the
necessary 5.000 average; thus
proving their ability.
Another issue presented for
discussion by Bill Buckley,
president of IFC, was that
many applicants for IFC posi
tions failed to show proper
knowledge and enthusiasm
for the work of the council. It
was suggested that more work
be done with pledges in ori
enting them for such positions.

Jim Branch works in our local bank. I've known him for years. We
went to school together. But I never felt I could come right out and ask him
why he never goes to church. One night when we both happened to get
into a confidential frame of mind, the words came easier.
He told me that of all things it was because he hated this busi
ness of passing the plate for money. He said he saw enough money at the
bank all week without seeing it worshipped on Sunday too.
I admit this shocked me. That's why I told him, frankly, that I thought
he'd completely missed the point. I told him ur minister once said that
it gives him a good feeling when he receives the collection; not because
this is money but because the people are giving the fruit of their own
efforts to God. In the old days, it might have been a sheep, or the choicest
fruits and vegetables from the harvest. Today, it's dollars and cents. But
the motive is still the same, and it's a good motive.
I saw Jim at the morning service a couple of weeks ago, and some
thing tells me that it won't be longbefore he'll be getting the point
not missing it!
