The winner will be elected Weds. Oct. 23, by the student body and will be announced at the pep rally the following Friday. The finalists were chosen by a special board, composed of students and faculty, on the basis of poise, activities, and grade average. The Homecoming Queen competi tion is sponsored each year by Tassels. The 1963 finalists: Janee Benda, Alpha Omicron Pi so rority, has a 6.8 average and Is majoring in physical edu cation in Teachers College. She is president of the Wom en's Athletic Association and a member of Tassels. Carol Bieck, Gamma Phi Beta sorority, is a zoology major in the College of Arts and Sciences with a 7.3 grade point average. Her activities include Tassels and Student Council. Polly Brown, Delta Gam ma sorority, is majoring in French and Spanish in Teach ers college and has a 6.0 grade average. Polly belongs to Cadence Countesses, Build ers and is a Red Cross chair man. Carol Lea Klein is major ing in French in Teachers College and has an 8.5 aver age. She has served as a member of Associated Wom en Students' House of Rep resentatives, is a dorm stu dent adviser, a member of Newman Club and was a Re gents Scholarship winner. Bonnie Gay Knudsen, Pi Beta Phi sorority, is major ing in journalism and Eng lish in Teachers College and holds a 6.3 grade average. Bonnie is the 1964 Coed Fol lies chairman, was a 1962 Cornhusker Beauty Queen finalist, is a member of Theta Sigma Phi journalism honor ary and is a 1963 Activities Queen finalist. Mary Morrow, Kapp Alpha Poet Sanchez Lauds State A summer assignment at the University of Nebraska has yielded an unexpected compliment from one of the ranking poets of Mexico, Ernesto Mejia Sanchez. The Sept. 25 edition of 'Siempre," widely-read Mex ican weekly magazine, car ries 12 poems by Sanchez tinder the general title of ""Nebraska Notebook." In them he compares Nebraskan and Mexican terrain, sun shine, and air along with musings about learning and family life. During the University of Nebraska summer session, Dr. Sanchez served as a visit ing professor of Latin Ameri can culture on the staff of the National Defense Educa tion Act institute for teacher training. I f 1 Peace Foundation President To Talk Here Wednesday William Plymat, president of the World Peace Broad casting Foundation, will speak Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ix)ve Library Auditor ium. The program is spon sored by the Nebraska Inter national Association (N1A). He will speak on the role of Uni versity - stu dents in im proving ra cial relations. Plymat, an a c c o m plished man in civic, cul t u r a 1, and business ac Plymat tivities, was chairman of the Des Moines Interracial Com mission which sought to bring harmony between colored and white in Des Moines. Last year he w a s Chairman of lowans Against the Death Penalty, a group which sought to get the death penalty re moved from the law. He has been president of the University Club of Des Moines, chairman of the In stitute of Scientific Studies on the Prevention of Alcoholism, and treasurer of a national youth organization, the Allied youth. As president of the World Peace Broadcasting Founda tion he has been responsible for hundreds of radio borad casts on peace. Alums Start Newspaper In an effort to keep Univer sity of Nebraska graduates former students up-to-date on campus news, the Alumni As sociation is publishing a news paper which will be issued twice each year. The first issue of the "Ne braska Alumnus" newspaper is being sent this week to 52, 000 former Cornhusker stu dents. The newspaper was se lected as aneconomical means of reaching graduates and former students, accord ing to Harriet Coble, editor of the "N e b r a s k a Alumnus" newspaper and magazine.
