Mr. Smith is a graduate of
the University and had an
early career as a school
teacher. He was a member
of the XU faculty for S7 years,
and is credited for developing
a laboratory for teaching the
principles of ignition, carbtire
tion. valve timing, and other
aspects of an engine. Early
research by Prof. Smith re
sulted in advances in tractor
oil filters, control of bindweed
by cultivation and corn cul
ture. lie retired frwm the Univer
sitr in 1955, signing a con
tract with Michigan State
University as an agrknltaral
engineering representative n

landing and the development

Latin America in Mexico City
; and provides loan and legal
