Page 4 7 hind ads Lose Biaffesioes In-Tfiangulor Thirteen Records Broken At Boulder; Teams Prepare For Big Eight Meet By JAN SACK Staff Sports Writer Thirteen records fell by the wayside as Nebraska track sters placed second to a strong Colorado team Satur day in a triangular at Boul der. The Buffs wound up with 83 points to 60 for Nebras ka and 37 for the Air Force Academy. The Huskers could only grab two victories on the track and two on the field. Ray Knaub of Nebraska set a new meet record and tied the stadium mark for the 100 yard dash. The Husker speed ster ran the century in :09.5, nipping CU's Dick Burns by Inches. The old meet record of :09.6 was held by Keith Gardner of NU. Knaub's :09. 5 ties the stadium record held by Don Campbell of CU in 1949 and Bobby Morrow of Abilene Christian. The Scarlet sprinter then Dushed Burns to a new stadi urn mark in the 220-yard dash. Burns' time was :20.8. Deck Tennis 'Games On Tap . Intramural deck tennis matches are scheduled to be gin this week, with entries due tomorrow in room 102 in the Physical Education building. This is the first time that this game has been played in intramural sports. The games will be played on the Badmin ton Courts in the P.E. build ing. The objective of the game Is to toss the six-inch ring ' back and forth across the net without letting it touch the ground. The game consists of, 15 points. Matches are two out of three games. Each organization may en ter from one to six doubles teams. All matches are scheduled for evenings with the option of playing any match earlier in the day. A' trophy will be given to the All-University team cham pions and medals will be pre sented to the Doubles players winning the championship. Nebraska's Gil Gebo picked up the 440-yard dash win with a :47.6, his personal best. Jack Cramer of Nebraska won the high jump with a 6-4 leap. This beats the old record of 6-4 set by Harold McAferty of CU in 1947. Team mate Harry Krebs placed second. The other NU win was picked up by Roland Johnson in the discus with a toss of 149-10. Colorado, middle distance ace Bob Griffith polished off two events the mile and 880. Griffith beat Husker Mike Fleming in the mile by run ning a 4:09.6, good for a new stadium and meet record. The old meet mark was 4:18.9 set by Fleming in 1962. The sta dium mark of 4:11.5 was es tablished bv Wes Santee of U.S. Marines in 1955. Griffith won the half mile in 1:53.8 over NU's Bill Kenny. Jim Miller of Colorado was the other double winner by taking the hurdle events. The sophomore whiz won the highs in :14.2 for a meet re cord. The old mark of : 14.4 was set by Don Bedker of NU in 1952. Husker Fred Wilke placed second. In the 330-yard intermediate hurdles, Miller was clocked in :37.2. This stands as a new mark because it is a new event. Chuck Keagle of Colo rado was second and Wilke third. Mike McCoy of Colorado won the two-mile run in 9:52. 6 topping Nebraska's Larry Toothaker. The Buffs walked off with both relay titles. In the 440 relay the Buffs ran :40.8 for a new meet and stadium re cord. Old stadium mark of :41.1 was set by CU in 1936 and meet mark of :41.4 by NU In 1962. j In the mile relay the Colo rado quartet turned in a 3:12.- 3 which eclipses the old meet record of 3:19.8 by CU in 1961. Nebraska was second in both relays. Roger Olander of Colorado set the final meet record in the pole vault by learing 14-6. Old record of 14-0 was held by Ken Pollard of Nebraska. Paul Himsman of the Air Force Academy won the broad jump in 23-6Vz. Vic Brooks of Nebraska was sec ond at 23-2. Leander Durley of Colorado won the triple jump with a 47-10 mark. This is a new stadium record eras ing the old set by Clarence Robinson of New Mexico in 1963. Brooks was second. The shot put was won by Tom Galbos of Colorado in 53-9. NU Golfers Lose Two At Pioneer In a triple dual at the Pio neers golf course Friday, Cornhuskers were beaten by Oklahoma State and Kansas State. The Cowboys defeated the Huskers by a score of 9-6 and the K-State Wildcats topped the Huskers, 9V2-5M-. The dual affair between K-State and OSU was taken by the Cow boys, 9V2-5. Surprise For NU Football Camp The Husker football squad had a surprise from Gotham Bowl officials Friday when a large shipment of sports coats arrived from New York. The navy blue sport coats had been promised as part of the bowl prizes but NU of ficals had given up on getting them. The Gotham Bowl recently put in a bid to the NCAA sanction committee for an other bowl game but was re fused permission to hold an other bowl game next year. The coats arrived at the Cornhusker fieldhouse Friday afternoon. Kansas shut out Nebraska 7-0 and Washburn University of Topeka edged Nebraska 4-3. In .the Washburn meet, the victory was taken by the hosts after Jeff Wu forfeited his match to Chuck Brooks. Wu suffered a black eye when he was hit by a tennis ball so he had to withdraw. Dick Gibson and Dave WohL- farth, Nebraska's number one and two singles men, both de feated Washburn opponents. Action Jo CU Two Three Run Homers Costly To NU Squad; Ten Errors By Nebraskans Aid CU Victories The Cornhuskers took the third game of a three game series from Colorado Satur day,. 7-5, after the Buffs had swept a double header from the Huskers on Friday, .7-5, and 4-1. The series left the Buffaloes with an 8-4 conference record and in third place. The Husk ers now stand 5-9 in confer ence action, seven games out in sixth place. In Friday's twinbill action, CU's Dick Dodge hit a three run homer in the fifth inning to put the Buffs ahead to stay in the seven-inning open er. The Huskers came back with one in the sixth and an other in the seventh. CU hurler, Adrian M o h r, had trouble in the seventh when the Huskers had run ners on second and third with one out but Mohr retired the last two NU batters for the victory. The Buffaloes won the nightcap on Roger Griffin's three-run homer in extra in nings. CU opened scoring on a triple by Ron Brown and a fielder's choice but Husker Tom Ernst tied it in the sixth with a homer. , . George Cattermole struck out ten and gave up two hits for his third Big 8 vic tory. In Saturday's finale, The Cornhuskers picked up three runs in the top of the first, then fell into a 4-4 tie after four innings. They hit the top to stay with a run in the fifth.
