It had been scheduled for Satur day but was rained out. 0 CI IsffoOSfS Hf3 IT ff cfOFf The Husker grid men held a postponed scrimmage Sun day afternoon on a drenched practive field in which the Reds beat the White squad 30-24. Yearling Henry Woods dom inated the afternoon attack as he scored three big tallies for the Red team. Woods ran for two of the tallies and com bined with John Vujevich for the third tally. The Red squad, lead by sen tor quarterback Dennis Gar idge, presented a well-balanced attack as they passed for two touchdowns and ran for three more. Sophomore halfback Kent McCloughan opened the scor ing for the Reds as he ran around left end for 21 yards. Freshman back Henry Woods followed suit with a three yard run for the second Red tally. Later Woods hit John Vujevich, freshman left half, who ran for 22 more Red yards on a screen pass play. For the final tally, Woods once more took the ball and ran around left end for 22 yards. The White team, lead by quarterback Dave Lebsack from Lincoln, took to the air to score all four of their touch downs. Lebsack opened the White drive with a pass to Mike Kennedy for 5 yards for their first tolly. Then quarterback Deng Tucker came on to hit Pat Fisher for 20 yards and a sec ond White tally. Then freshman Fred Duba threw for two more touch downs. He hit yearling Ted Vactor for 25 yards and fol lowed that with a pitch to left half Frank Solich who ran for 50 yards for the final White tally. Kansas, rolling on their home lanes, won the tourna ment handily. Big Eight Opponents Hit Golfers Nebraska's golf team fell to Oklahoma Slate, 9 to 6, and to Kansas State, 91 to 54, Friday at Pioneers Park. Oklahoma State also de feated Kansas State 94 to 54. Don Lackey of Oklahoma State won medalist honors by shooting a two under par 70. Tom Thomsen was Ne braska's lowest scorer as he shot 72's to win both of his matches. Kent Mffirmehnn Ray Knaub and Gil Gebo came through with a fourth witn a 3:29.0 clocking. In the disputed 440-yard re lay the Huskers were given uura spot with a :42.2. Knaub contested the finish to the officials saying he snapped the tape ahead of Baylor's anchor Bill Kemp. Nebraska nicked nn the oth er third in the two-mile re lay with runners Bill Kenny, Mike Fleminir. Rav Sbwnc and Gebo. Their time was 7:38.3. Oregon State won the event wan a 7:3L5 clocking. Two of the outstanding events on the track were the mile relay and open mile. In the open mile Dyrol Burleson running for the Emerald Em pire Club cracked his own re lay record with a 4:05.4. Bur leson's old mark of 4:06.7 was set in 1959 while nrnning for Oregon. The Oregon runner said af ter the race that the track was slow and he had some trouble trying to keep the cin ders out of his eyes. Burleson chose to compete in the Drake Relays rather than Perm and Mt. San Antonio Relays which are held at the same time. Iowa University won the mile relay from. Abilene Christian on the tremendous anchor of Roger Kerr. The Haw key es were timed in 3:13. 5. Saturdaythe crowd saw Fred Hansen of Rice smash the pole vault record by clear ing the bar at 15-7V4. The old record of 15-6 was set by George Davies of Oklahoma State In 1961. Another thrilling event, es pecially to the Nebraskans present was the 100-yard dash which was won by Omaha University's Roger Sayers. The OU flash was caught in :09i for the victory. Bornschlegl Top Ten Larry Bornschlegl, hard hit ting catcher for the Husker baseballers, is one of the top hitters in the Big Eight confer ence according to the Big Eight office out of Kansas City. Bornschegl is hitting at a -380 clip to bold down the ninth place position. Only two nlav- ers are batting above the .500 level thus far in the season. Both are from Colorado. First baseman Dodge and shortstoo Dutcher are hitting J2Q and -500 respectively. PEOPLE 220 N. 48 NU Neffers Hit Drake K-Sfate Cornhuskers Lose To ISU Cyclones Nebraska's tennis team de feated Drake and Kansas State and lost to Iowa State this past weekend. The Husk ers dumped Drake 6 to Thursday and beat Kansas State and lost to Iowa State by identical 4 to 3 scores Frl day and Saturday at Ames. Saturday's rainy weather, which forced the matches in doors caused Kansas State to leave town early, foregoing the double matches. With the two forfeit wins, Nebraska and Iowa State both edged the Wildcats 4-3. Dick Gibson, Nebraska's number one man, won all three of his singles matches and teamed with Dave Wohl farth for two doubles victor ies, in two attempts. Jan Wall picked up his sec-J ond Big Eight shutout of the season. ' He blanked the Jayhawks of Kansas at Lawrence two weeks ago in the conference opener. Wall pitched a two-hit shut out. He struck out nine and walked only one. Al Closter, Cyclone sophomore Ditcher fanned five and walked two. Closter. a former Drpn has- ketball and baseball standout from Creighton, Neb., was the loser in the nightcap of the! twin bill affair. Larry Bornschlegl gave i Wall a one-run cushion in the ; first when he walked, went to ! third on a throwing error, and scored on Closter's w ild pitch. Wall hit Closter for a third inning double first of the sea son on the lefthander. Don Schindel then tapped a base hit bunt and Wally Duff fol lowed with a single to right, scoring Wall. Bornschlegl then forced Schindel third and Ernie Boni stall popped to short . With tw o out, Closter walked John Faiman to load the bases. Ron Douglas, Husker second baseman, then singled between short and third to drive in the final two Husker tallies. Delon Thompson picked up a three-hit victory in the opener. The righthander didn't allow a Husker beyond second base. Two of the Cyclone runs w ere unearned as the Huskers committed three errors. ' 1 label l-State ACE HURLER Senior Jan Wall pitched his second Big Eight shutout Friday in the second game of the twinbill with Iowa State, 3-0. NU Soccerites Play 5-5 Draw The University of Neoraska soccer team, sponsored by the People To People program drove to a 5-5 tie with Union College Sunday afternoon on the Ag Campus. The NU team scored a tie with the Union College team with less than a minute to go as Tony Rassekh drove across the tying goal. The first half was dominated by the visitors as they hurried to a three goal lead before the hosts could, score. Put the NU team bounced back to tie it before adjourning for the ha;f. The hosts had their hands full the second half but they dominated play. The Huskers scored two goals but two oth ers bounced into the eoal posts without scoring. They had trouble all afternoon with high shoots. Especially praised for his defensive game was NU goalie Bill Kay wood who made some good saves in the course of the game. The PTP players are sched uled to play rematches with the RAF and Union Col'ege in the next two weeks. They also plan to play a semi-pio team, from Omaha and pos sibly a game with Creighton University and Kansas Uni versity. you can hardly 3BK
