From the Novice Corner . . ere's Sports Introductions bother me because I can seldom think of witty or smart things to say. So we will dispense with formalities and merely say that my name is Terry Ander son; I am going to be associated with this section of the Nebraskan for a semester and I do hope you will put up with the things said in the column. If any of you read the sports page yesterday, you may have noticed the article on the University swimmers. Sat urday they are going to enter the water against the toughest competition to date. Kansas State and Oklahoma University will come to town for a double dual meet. Oklahoma has domineered the Big Eight championships since 1955 and it seems likely that a repeat is coming again this year. Two other teams cannot be counted out yet this year; these are Iowa State and Nebraska. ISU has dominated second place in the conference since mi h.rton He win strpnk hark. Last vear the Huskers fin ished fourth in the meet, highest ever under coach Dick Klass. This year while coach Klass is on leave of absence Cal Bentz, last year's freshmen coach has stepped up to the driver's seat and thus far has a 3-1 record. Oklahoma swimmers have many of their point-getters back this year. Most prominent of the Oklahoma swimmers is AU-American Charles Schuette who last year won all three distance events in the freestyle at An.es, la. . Schuette set records in both the 220-yard freestyle and the 440-yard freestyle. He also finished well ahead of his nearest competitor in the long 1500-yard swim. Markley Praises Schuette This year, according to coach Jay Markley, Schuette has been swimming the 100-yard free with much succes. In the ino- f thA 4nn-vard free relav. he swam the 100 in 49.8 seconds. Consequently Schuette is expected to en- .1 A. A I-. ter the 100 free m tne meet on oauuuay. FntaroH frtr Nebraska will be senior Phil Swaim and sophomore Keefe Lodwig. Lodwig against Denver University last month swam the 100-yard in record time of 51.0 sec onds Swaim has also been near 51.0. Given a good day these men could edge out either of the Oklahoma boys. Nebraska foint-ueuers oot rccibi. nnintc frr thp Huskers will be in senior Vern Bauers, who placed second in the Big Eight last year in the breastroke distances; juniors Bill Fowles and Bill Henry in the butterfly and backstroke respectively; m free stylers Jeff Amsler, Phil Swaim. and Keefe Lodwig; and in diver Chuck Levy.
