Monday January 14, 1963 The Daily Nebraskan Page 4 Second Half Surge by K-State Is Downfall of Husker Cagers It's a shame there are two halves in a basketball game. Kansas State, highly favored in its contest with Husker cagers last Saturday at Manhattan, needed a sec ond half surge to stop Jerry Bush's crew. The Wildcats broke loose with an 11-point rally at the opening of the second half after holding a slim intermis sion lead, 33-32. A wicked fast break by the 'Cats was the Husker down fall as K-State gained com plete control of the second stanza and hit a good 41 of their field goal attempts. Nebraska had the lead in this department during the see-saw first half. NU popped home 43 while K-State was walloping with 32. Ivan Grupe was the top point getter for the Huskers, hitting 19 points, followed by Daryl Petsch's 13. These were the only two in double figures for Nebraska. Willie Murrell paced the Wildcats with 26 points, many of which came off the second half fast break plays led by Hebron native, Al Peithman. Gary Marriott also countered with 12. The Huskers now have a 5-8 record. Next game for the Huskers will be at K a n g a s Saturday, the final encounter before final examination break. In other Big Eight action Colorado murdered Missouri, 92-69, and Iowa State upset Kansas, 55-51.
