slate for Christmas vacation
that's basketball five
games of it as the rest of the
varsity and intramural
squads take a two-week
break. .
Southern California leads
things off tonight and returns
again Saturday with both
meetings on the Coliseum
floor. Game time is 8:05 p.m
for both contests.
The Huskers will be going
for their fourth and fifth wins
of the campaign, but USC is
7-0 on the campaign and have
knocked off a Husker con
queror. x
Denver Loses
Denver bit the dust to the
Trojans, 70-62, earlier in the
season and USC has also
knocked off Big Eight foes
Missouri. 77-70, and Okla
homa, 66-61.
Coach Forrest Twogood's
team is led by Allen Young
and Gordon Martin. Young is
a sophomore averaging 17.8
points per game from his piv
ot position.
Martin was one of the top
scorers on last year's fine
team and is averaging 17
points this season at forward.
Other Starters
Hounding out the Trojan
front wall is Bill Parsons
with Bill Morris and . Wells
Sloniger handling the back
court spots.

Dwain Carlson and Gary Too
good. Along with Auburn, who al
so will have four players rep
resented, the Huskers will
have the most members on
the national team.

As Week's Star
Santa Claus, 5-5 , 467 pound
er hailing from North Pole
has been selected Star of the
Week for his excellent show
in Saturday's bout with the
South Pole.
This hard-fought contest
proved that Claus is indeed
North's ace lineman. In Sat
urday's tilt he came through
with a 57 yard run that
helped down South a ram
paging 7-.
Game laurels are to be
shared with coach Rudof
Reindeer. Commented Rein
deer, "Claus gave a good
show, although he has recent
ly been on the bench with a
bad cold." Replied Claus,
"Coach guided my way."

A chess tournament will
lead off the Association of
Collegiate Unions tourna
ments to be held, Jan. 7-18.
The tournament will be an
elimination tournament begin
ning Wednesday, Jan. 9, at
7 p.m.
There will be an entry fee
of 50 cents, per person. Troph
ies will be awarded to first
and second place. The first
four places will trave) to the
University of Kansas for a
regional tournament during
the first two weeks of second
semester. '
Entrants are asked to bring
a chess clock if they have
one and their own chess
equipment. Entrants may sign
up at the games desk any
time before five p.m. Jan. 9.
