basketball game of the sea
son, 68-61, to powerful Hous
ton in Houston Monday night.
Next assignment for the
cagers will be their home
opener in Lincoln Saturday
when the Air Force Academy
flies in.
The Huskers took a sur
prising 33-30 lead at half time
before the Cougers tied it up
with 17:20 left in the game on
Chester Oliver's layup.
Lyle Harger led Houston s
second half splurge with 14
points in the second half, all
in the first ten minutes of the
final period.
The Couger All-American
candidate was held to just

Warren Powers and Dwain
Carlson were named the
1962 Outstanding Back and
Lineman of the Year by the
Optimist Club last Sunday
evening at a banquet given
for the Husker griders by
the Optimists.
Powers, who doubled as
fullback and left halfback,
received the back trophy,

Dwain Carlson was .the
number one NU lineman.

been nominated to the 1962
Sports Illustrated Silver An
niversary All-America by the
University.
All ex-gridders who played
their last collegiate games in
1937 and honored for accom
plishments in the intervening
years are eligible. 1962's
group has achieved great dis
tinction in business, medicine,
the law education, the mili
tary, the ministry and public
service.
The winners in the unique
All-America are selected by
ballot among a panel of dis
tinguished judges from nom
inations and citations made
by colleges and universities
all over the country.
Requirement for candidacy
is senior varsity football per
formance 25 years ago. Elec
tion is based on nominee's
record of success in his
chosen field in life.
Dohrmann won 11 letters
while at Nebraska which is
still a record at the Univer
sity. He is now director of
personnel for the Data Pro
cessing Division of IBM.
Claridge, Thornton
Picked In Pro Draft
Dennis Claridge, Nebraska's
greatly improved junior
quarterback and Bill (Thun
der) Thornton 2nd team All-
American fullback, have been
selected in the professional
football college players draft.
Claridge w as selected
by the Green Bay Packers in
the third round of the selec
tions and Thornton was chosen
by the St. Louis Cardinal's
organization in the fifth
round.

annual pro football draft.
Claridge, a junior quarter
back, was picked in the third
round by the Green Bay Pack
ers. Theisen, a halfback and de
fensive specialist, was picked
in the 11th round by the Los
Angeles Rams.
Thornton, a star halfback
for three years, was picked in
the fifth round by the St. Louis
Cardinals.
