Indian Students Support
Nehru; Wire Telegram
By BOB RAY
Ag News Editor
The University India Asso
ciation sent a telegram last
Thursday to India's Prime
Minister, Jawalahral Nehru,
backing his stand in the China
border fighting.
Engineer Rajindar Manik
dala explained, "Many of our
friends have asked us why
India allowed China to take
so much land on our border.
We have drafted this resolu
tion in explanation."
The text of the telegram
was: "To the Prime Minister
of India we express full soli
darity with India's stand. We
advocate strong action against
Chinese agression. Signed, In
dia Association, University of
Nebraska."
Prime Minister Nehru de
clared a state of emergency
in India Friday.

Manikdala said that India
has no access routes to the
mountains "because we antic
ipated no trouble on the bor
der." He added that India's
northern outposts are supplied
by air.
"I visited these outposts In
1958," Manikdala said, "and
the hills there are so steep
that even mules are useless
for transport."
China has many good
roads, he explained, partly
because they control much of
the "Burma Road" of World
War II fame, but mostly be
cause "they built many new
roads under the pretext of
fighting the guerrillas Chang
Kai Chek left behind when he
went to Formosa," he said.
Indian Army is "definitely not
made up of chocolate sol
diers. But what can they do
after they have fought to the
last bullet?"
