Cyclones Bring Whirl
. . . In Conference Opener
By RICK AKIN
Sports Editor
Every week there seems to
be a question that confronts
the Husker football squad and
the coaching staff.
This week's question will be
answered tomorrow in Memo
rial Stadium at 2 p.m. when
the Huskers host Iowa State
in botn teams comerence
opener.
Last week against Michigan
the miestion was: How will
Nebraska react when facing
a tough opponent like tne wol
verines after slaughtering
South Dakoata.
Before the South Dakoata
game the question was: Just
how good i s this year's
squad?
This Week's Question
And this week's question is:
Will the Huskers be able to
keep the train rolling after
the win in Ann Arbor?
Even though the Iowa State
coach, Clay Stapleton, has
been patting the Huskers on
the back, the Cyclones always
seem to cause a big whirl
when the two teams meet.
Every year the battle be
tween the two teams ends up

PLANNING AHEAD
Nature has provided the
squirrel with an instinct for sur
vival. The squirrel plans for the
long winter ahead.
Man often neglects to consid
er the future the source of
income when his bread-winning
days are through. One of the
soundest ways to guarantee fi
nancial peace of mind is through
life insurance. CML hac a wide
variety of plans and I would
be happy to discuss the one
most appropriate for your pres
ent and future needs.

NU Dominates
The Huskers completely
dominated all the statistics
last year but the Cyclones
managed to keep things to
the wire. In 1959, Iowa State
ruined an Orange Bowl bid
by Nebraska, as the Cyclones
set the Huskers down, 18-6.
The Cyclone win came right
after Nebraska broke Ok
lahoma's fabulous winning
j streak, 25-21.
i A field goal was again the
j margin of difference in 1960,
10-7, but this time the Cy
clones were on top.

This was Hoppman's first

against the Huskers for 57
yards.
Hoppman is back with the
Cyclones and will undoubted
ly carry the ball often again
Saturday.
Hoppman starred out the
season at quarterback for the
Cyclones in their new offense,
the wing-T.
Hoppman Back
But Hoppman is now back
to his old position, tailback,
with Larry Switzer, a soph
omore, handling the quarter
backing chores.
Iowa State brings a bigger
team than usual to Lincoln.
The Cyclones average 215
pounds in the line compared
to Nebraska's 220. In the
backfield Iowa State averages
190 compared with Nebraska
averaging 200 among the
backs.
Overall, Iowa State aver
ages 206, and the Husfcers av
erage 213.
Stuewe and Theisen
Dave Theisen and Dennis
Stuewe are still the big ques
t i o n marks. physically.
Stnewe's ankle has not shown
much improvement and he
will do little running to give
him some rest.
Theisen will not do much
running either until a deci
sion can be made.
The Huskers will go
through a very light workout
todav before moving to the
Nebraska Center for Continu
ing Education until game
time.
Yesterday the Huskers
worked on their kicking
games. Working on points aft
er the touchdown were Jim
Bafiico, Tom Ernst, Rudy
Johnson, John Faiman and
Bill (Thunder) Thornton.
Working on the punting
were Dennis Claridge, Baffico
and Chuck Deopke.
