Engineering, Architecture Hansen James Hansen, sophomore, thinks that the Student Coun cil, "should act as both a mirror and a molder of stu dent opinion." According to Hansen, another function of the Council is to serve as a link between the student body and the University faculty. Hansen's platform stresses FUTURE SPACEMAN? Marshall Rodney ' Marshall, sopho omore, feels that the "Stu dent Council should be a de vice to express student opin ion of campus. Marshall Brazil that he would "gener ally be opposed to the affilia tion of the University with NSA." Marshall is president of Renton House, secretary of Phi Eta Sigma freshman hon orary, ana serves on uie RAM Council. Redman Dale Redman, freshman believes that the Student Council "should be the lead ing group in guiding the di rection of and developing the continuity of the University program." He feels that the "Student Council should con cern itself with issues campus, state, national and international, pertinent to the best interests of the stu dent body." Redman, in stating his plat form, said, "the Council must remove the stigma of 'mop ism' and work to achieve the status of most influential, ac tive and respected organiza tion on campus." Redman serves as the chair man of the Union special events committee and is on the Student Council represen tation study committee. Seidell's goals, if elected, are, "better communlcatton between the Council and the student body." He Is in favor of,. "an increased budget for the Council which would help it operate more efficiently, and explore new fields which it was not previously able to be active in." He also feels the public issues committee should, "expand into civil de fense, youth exodus from the state, Peace Corps, and wage minimum on the campus." Seidell is an IFC represen tative, and serves on the Student Council associ ate committee. He is past chairman of the Greek Games in 1961, a member of Sigma Chi and active in in tramural sports. Miss Volberding Mary Ann Volberding, soph omore, feels that "the Stu dent Council should represent the students as much as pos sible by aiding the adminis tration in making policies which directly concern the student body." Miss Volberding's platform contains a better parking sys tem, a system controlled by students to fight the cheating on the campus and the im provement of public relations by the use of reports such as news posters, bne aiso feels that Council representa tives should hold meetings with the members of the col lege they are representing in order to give information of Council activities and draw opinions from the students. Miss Volberdging is a member of Tassels, Kappa Delta, and is office manager of the Nebraska Blueprint. Arts and Sciences Miss Armstrong Suzanne Armstrong, fresh man, feels the Student Coun cil, "should play a strong role in University affairs since it is the organization which can most effectively voice the opinion of the college stu dent." Miss Armstrong is interest ed in, "developing the Stu dent Council associates to a more effective program, as it is an excellent means to de velop potential Council mem bers." She is a member of Stu dent Council associates, Del ta Delta Delta and is the as sistant chairman of the Union public relations com mittee. Miss Birncv Judy Birney, sophomore, thinks the role of the Student Council should be, "to fitrpnirthpn the ties between the Student Council and the student body, to recognize and emphasize student ieaa Pi-shin In other areas of cam ilfp nnd to nublicize Student Council activities mors on cammis." Christie Dennis Christie, sophomore, feels that the role of Student Council is threefold," the presentation of student opin ion, the calendaring student activities and cultural pro graming." Christie's platform for next year includes a tnorougn study of Council representa tion, a revision in the com mittee system, an increased budget and opposition to NSA affiliation. Christie is past president of Junior IFC, a member of the IFC affairs committee, schol arship chairman of IFC af fairs committee, member of Phi Delta Theta, publicity chairman of Phi Eta Sigma freshman honorary, and members of Nu-Meds. Kittams David Kittams, freshman, sees the role of the Student Council "as a body small enough to perform several functions denied, for the most part, to the student body." He feels that, "the council should be a body of conveni ent size, of interested, as well as representative, mem bership, and of an aggressive philosophy in determining and pursuing a conslstant policy." Kittams listed programs in need of study as the repres entation problem, certain or ganizational policies, ana a review of AWS late hours. Kittams is a member of NU-Meds, Daily Nebraskan worker and chairman of RAM publishing committee. Kotouc Tom Kotouc, sophomore, fa vors Council leadership in es tablishing a Senator-to-Sena- tor program which will pro vide state senators with an opportunity to become an in tegral part of campus lite. Kotouc noted that "students will take an interest in Stu dent 'Council to the extent that it serves them." Advocating aggressive and conscientious leadership for Student Council next year, Kotouc is chairman of the Nebraska Council of Youth, member of Phi Kappa Psi, president of Phi Eta Sigma, Daily Nebraskan staff writ er and a member of Corn Cobs. Miss Olson Jeri Ann Olson, freshman, said "the Student Council should be a student govern ing body which is concerned with the betterment of the University." She feels that the Council should reflect a representative opinion and co ordinate similar ideas int o opinions. In her platform, Miss Ol son, States a desire to see NSA given a trial period. She is also in favor of changing the method of representation to possibly a system of liv ing districts. She has suggest ed that the English Depart ment assign in-class themes on issues concerning the Stu dent Council. The papers, aft er being graded, would be sent to the Council for study. Miss Olson is a member of NU-Meds, Tassels, Sigma Kappa and Student Council associates. She is a Spring Day and Union worker and plays in the orchestra. Rogowski Ron Rogowski, sophomore, stated that the "Student Coun cil should be a true represen tative of student opinion." This he feels should also be carried on at the local, state and national levels, when the issues concern the students at the University. Rogowski's ideas for next year are the removal of vot ing power for organizational representatives, and a study of Council presentation. Miss Wahl Ann Wahl, a sophomore, feels the Student Council "should act as the supreme governing body for students; it should regulate and coor dinate the various phases of student government." Her platform for next year includes improvement of the associate program, improved representation through public reports on the attendance and participation of Council members and Council activi ties, and the coordination of the control exercised by the Council and University regu lations as applied to certain organizations on the campus. Miss Wahl is a Red Cross assistant, a Builders worker, a member of Student Council associates and Alpha Omicron pi. She serves on People-to-People and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta fresh man honorary. Wright Thomas Wright, sopho more, said the role of the Student Council should be "to represent the student body to the faculty and to the Ad ministration to serve as a re flection of the student body to both the. Administration and the people not included in the University community and to stimulate and inform the stu dent body." Growth of Brazil To Be Discussed Prof. Bernard Rosen, of the department of sociology, will address members of th Spanish Club and other inter ested persons at the Student Union tomorrow at 8 p.m. He will speak on "Personal ity and Economic Growth ia Brazil." After the conference there will be a brief question and answer period. Rosen spent eight months in Brazil in 1960 as a researcher sponsored by the U.S. Depart ment of Health, Education and Welfare, serving simultane ously as visiting professor at the University of San Paulo.
