' Colorado leads the- confer ence race with a 6-0 record, including four road wins. CU edged Nebraska, 58-56, on the NU floor in one of the Busk ers' many tight games earli er this season. , "Colorado's two road wins over Oklahoma and Okla homa State Just about cinched the title for the Buf faloes," Bush commented. Nebraska won another of Its "close verdicts" Monday night bv nipping Oklahoma State 57-56 before 2,500 fans in the Coliseum. The win evened the Huskers' Big Eight record at three wins andt three losses. The game was the sixth contest for the Huskers in volving a one-point decision. NU has also played in two games which have been de cided by a two point margin. Bush had praise for the play of sophomore Charley Jones in Monday nignrs thriller. "Jones provided the spark that got us going against Oklahoma State," Bush sail. The Husker coach indicat ed he might make a slight revision in his opening lineup for the Colorado game. NU may open the game with Tom Russell and Chuck Sla- Haas Tops Frosh Scoring. Gary Haas, former Lincoln High star, heads the yearling cage scoring chart as the Ne braska frosh prepare for their inter-collegiate home opener with Iowa State Monday. Game time is 5:45. Bob Gates' crew will be looking for its first win after opening the four-game sched ule with a 65-46 defeat at the hands of Kansas State's first year men. NU came on strong In a frantic finish to edge the Cowboys after trailing by as many as thirteen points m the first half. Late buckets by Ivan Gru pe and Russell cinched the game for NU after the Husk ers had fallen behind 52-51 with 3:57 remaining. The game was a loosely played affair with neither team n i 1 1 i n g consistently from the floor but NU hav ing an edge at the free throw line 15-12. Russell was the top scorer for NU with IS points which boosted his season's average to 15.0 for the 17 games. The veteran center-forward is shooting a .550 percentage with 77 baskets out of 140 at tempts from the floor. Swett and Petsch are also averaging in double figures with identical 10.1 averages on 152 points in 15 games. Swett had 13 in Monday's game. Three Huskers have pulled in 100 or more rebounds with Russell's 134 topping the list. Grupe is next with 124 and Sladovnik has 100. Ex-Link Ace Leads Frosh Past NROTC Gary Haas paced the Ne braska frosh en route to a 75-63 win over the Navy ROTC quintet Monday. The 6-3 yearling tallied 24 points. John Lloyd of Newark, N.J., who had been the number one freshman scorer this season, saw limited action in the pre lim to the Oklahoma State Nebraska battle. Grades will keep Lloyd ineligible second semester.
