Wednesday, February 7, 1962 The Daily Nebraskan Pogt 3 First Semester Graduates Reminded Of Obligation to Nebraska's Taxpayers In his charge to the class at Midyear Commencement, Chancellor Clifford Hardin stressed the graduates' debt oi gratitude to Nebraska tax payers. He pointed out that degrees received come with the com pliments of Nebraskans who have paid in taxes far more of the cost of higher education than individuals or their fam ilies. aaia tne Chancellor, "you nave an obligation to help keep open the doors of educa tional opportunity in this state and in this nation." Chancellor Hardin also gave special recognition to the graduates families. Commencement exercises for the approximately 360 de gree recipients were held Sat urday in Pershing Auditorium. On recommendation of the Faculty Senate and by vote of the Regents, honorary degrees were conferred upon two alumni. They are plant geneti cist Dr. Glenn Burton, a 1952 graduate, who has worked with the USDA Georgia Coastal Plain Experiment Sta tion, and automotive engineer Louis Lundstrom, a 1939 grad uate, who is director of all General Motors proving grounds.
