The shots came from the close contest between the leaders of the Big Eight Con ference , and also from the rifles of a crack drill team from Salina, Kan., which ap peared at half time and gave a resounding performance. me nuskers battled once again right down to the wire, but some bad NU passes, tough breaks and a late cold spell from the free throw line spelled defeat for Nebraska The loss was NU's first con ference setback against two wins and eighth loss of the year. The Huskers have won six. The victory, enabled Color ado to take sole possession of the Big Eight cage lead with a 2-0 loop mark and be come the only undefeated team in conference play. The Huskers held the Buffs even in every category ex cept free throw shooting where Colorado made two more than NU, the difference in the game. After over three minutes of swish silence, Colorado's fril ky Gilmore sneaked in for a layin with 2:05 left to push CU out in front 55-52. On the play which Gilmore scored, NlPs veteran forward Tommy Russell suffered an arm injury which sidelined him for the rest of the game. Leading the early Husker spree was Petsch. The 6-5 sophomore had another fine night, hitting 20 points on nine field goals, most of them long sets or Jumpers. Russell hit 11 points but the rest of the Husker starters failed to produce much, and Charley Jones also dent ed the Husker scoring col umn. Sidelights Trainer Paul Schneider reported after the game that voth Russell and Sladovnik, who were forced to the Sidelines, should be ready for Saturday's game at Iowa State. Bush rated Colorado as the toughest team in the league and explained that NU had sluffed one man off to help guard the Buffs' high-scoring Charlton. The NU coach thought his boys "all hus tled." In the Grinnell meet three Huskers set new meet rec ords. They were 1:45.6 in the 160-yard individual medley by Phil Swaim, 2:17.5 in the 200 yard, butterfly set by Bui Fowles, and 2:31.0 in the 200- yard breastroke set by La Verne Bauers. It Bauers' win in the 200-yard breaststroke , provided the margin for the Nebraskafls 4846 victory. In the IS dual two records were set. Cyclone Bill Muter won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:18.5, and led Iowa's 400 yard medley relay team to a 3:59.5 record. Huskers Bill Henry and Kuni Mihara provided wins in the 200-yard backstroke and 440-yard freestyle, but Iowa State took the meet 64-30. Heavyweight Jim Raschke was pressed for the first time this season at Boulder. Falls by Thompson and Raschke provided the mar gin in the slim 16-12 win over Colorado Mines at Golden Sat urday night. At Boulder, Friday, the Huskers won five of the first six bouts and then held off the Buffs for a 19-16 victory. Raschke, Coach Bob Man cuso's undefeated heavy weight from Omaha, ran in trouble Friday and only man aged a 44 draw with Bill Frank. Raschke flattened Mines' Duane Schroeder in 6:47. Nissen racked up two con vincing decisions in the 123 pound class and Cook followed in the same style at 1:47. Thompson downed Colora do's Stan Phillips, 18 to 6 and scored a 5:18 fall at Golden. John Karr's win by forfeit at 115 and Jim Faimon's vic tory at 137 helped against the Buffaloes. Mancuso's wrestlers are now 4-0-1 for the season.
