SPORTSWEAR STREET FLOOR More Sport Shorts (Continued from Page 3) I feel the Chancellor possibly is making two glaring mistakes in selecting an athletic director. The fjrst is that an athletic director should be a separate job from the coaching ranks, a man who is interested in all sports rather than just football. If we want good coaches, with our present investment in sports, then we ought to be willing io pay for tnem. What is the difference if a coach makes more money than a glorified salesman at Nebraska. The second mistake would be making a selection of a man who is not qualified. What did Bill Orwig, still exerting his pressure here, do as far as bringing Ne braska into the national spotlight again? The Big Ten and West Coast schools usually select a board of two alumni, two faculty members, two stu dents, and its president to make such important selec tions. At Nebraska, we have such a secretive system that it is no wonder things get so goofed up. We'd like to see such a board set up here with men who know a little bit about athletics serving on it. Athletics at NU have been second rate since 1941 and will continue to be such until we get men who can handle and lead men and women of Nebraska. We need the type of leadership that Henry Schulte gave us; the drive and sacrifice to achievement. The Old Pro still feels that Bill Jennings has given an outstanding effort. I only hope that he doesn't go through the hell that Bill Glassford did and, if he is resigning, that he does it right away. Bill has denied ru mors that his house is sold and he will leave by De cember 1. Bill, it isn't worth having drunks and antagon ists call up your family and make insulting remarks; it isn't worth having "experts" in football hanging you in effigy. All of this isn't fair to the school and to you. If you don't plan to - stay, announce this so that the 'experts" will get off your back. To the football team I think it's high time you quit bickering and start playing for Bill in the last three games. Bill is only human and makes mistakes. But you, as a football team, 'might dedicate yourself to win the last three for a man who has tried and apparently been defeated. A note to all effigy hangers we still might have a necktie party for our sterling athletic director selecton committee. Just think, it will be the first party involving somebody besides a coach. Predictions: Nebraska by 21 over Iowa State; ath letic director selected from among second raters with Jack Curtice as leading contender; another long four years to look forward to.
