Science Instruction Supported by Grant To help all Nebraska col leges strengthen their science teaching is the purpose of an unique comprehensive pro gram inaugurated this fall with a $159,800 grant from the National Science Foundation. This program involves the establishment of a five-member faculty development coun cil composed of representa tis from Nebraska's pub licly and privately supported four-year colleges and from junior colleges. Nominations for this coun cil have already been re quested from the 15 colleges and universities. This new council win find a snitable substitute to replace a teach er who comes to do graduate study and research at the Uni versity. The core of the program is a plan which will enable these participating colleges to free selected professors from their teaching staffs in science for the pursuit of graduate study and research at the Univer sity. They will be given leaves of absence with full pay. Their substitutes will be paid from funds provided by the Nation al Science Foundation. The grant will finance the new program for i two-year trial ran. It will provide grad-J a ate study ana research tor five Nebraska college science teachers the first year and for ten the second year.
