Tuesday, April 18, 1961 Jennings Continues to Stress Offense in Spring Workouts By Hal Brown Nebraska football coach Bill Jennings continued to stress offense as t h e Huskers en tered the second week of Spring drills Monday. The 'Huskers concentrated on offense all last week with the major emphasis on pass ing and Jennings indicated they would turn to the run ning game the first part of this week. "We have been working mainly on developing our passing thus far and we will now incorporate our naming game with our passing game to give attention to our entire offensive setup," Jennings said. Jennings indicated that a scrimmage may be held this afternoon, but the decision Finals Set Thursday In IM Volleyball Play By Cloyd Clark The 1961 intramural volley ball tournament will end Thursday night as the Burr-Selleck, fraternity, and B-team championship games will be played. Kappa Sigma will play Beta Sigma Psi in the fraternity championship and Beta Theat Pi will, play .Phi Delta in the B-team finals. In the Burr-Selleck game Manatt will play either Smith cr Seaton II. The Smith and Seaton II teams will play Wednesday night in the finals of the "D" bracket. If Smith wins, they will have beaten Seaton II twice and will hold the "D" cham pionship. But if Seaton wins the two .teams will have to replay the "D" championship at 7 p.m. Thursday to decide the opponent of Manatt in the 8 p.m. game. Kappa Sigma won the fra ternity "A" bracket when the Phi Delta Theta team for feited in the finals competi tion. The Phi Delts had beaten the Kappa Sigs in a semi-final match 15-8, 15-7, but their for feit dropped them from com petition giving the Kappa Sigs the championship. Beta Sigma Psi downed Al "pha Gamma Sigma in the "B" bracket of the volleball com petition, 15-2, 15-8. The, Kappa Sigma squad will piay the Beta Sigma Psi team at 8 p.m. Thursday to decide the fraternity cham pionship for 1961. If the Kappa Sigs win the Thursday night game they will boast, two Spring cham pionships in 1961 competition. Manatt won over Canfield in Thursday's games to gain a berth in the Burr-Selleck championship game. The Nebraska gridders are working today to make up for Saturday's cancelled ses sion. Last Saturday's scrimmage was cancelled be cause Jennings planned to concentrate on passing dur ing the scrimmage and the coaches decided the 22-mile an hour wind was not con ducive to passing. Several position changes were noted In Monday's Two-Sport Star Coming to NU Lawrence McNulty, all-state halfback in 1959 and gold medal discus thrower in the 1960 Nebraska high school track meet, will enroll at Ne braska in the fall, according to football coach Bill Jen nings. McNulty is attending Phil lips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire! He played in the Shrine football game here last summer. Although McCook is his resi dence, he competed for Wy more High School. McNulty finished third in his class scho lastically and won a Regents scholarship. He is 5-11 and weighs 185. McNulty won four letters in football, three each in basket ball and track. He played American Legion Junior base ball six years. Regents Accept MatAppointment The Board of Regents Mon day formally accepted Rob ert Mancuso of Bellevue as Nebraska wrestling coach to succeed Mickey S p a r a n o who resigned earlier this year. Mancuso will receive the same salary as Sparano and his contract will run from June 1, 1961, to June 1, 1962. Chancellor Clifford Hardin said, "From all indications he is a very fine young man." Bonistall gave up only one earned run and four hits in the opener of Saturday's twin bill, but Missouri pulled out a 2-1 decision with a run in the last of the seventh in ning in the seven-i n n i n g game. Ernst came on in relief of Jan Wall in the nightcap and pitched) 1 innings, allow ing only one hit and no runs as the Huskers dropped a 5-2 decision. "As the players begin to get a little more experience, they will begin to hit with men on base," Sharpe said. "We outhit Missouri, 21-19, but they (the Tigers) got them when they counted." Other Games In other games this week end, Oklahoma State will be at Oklahoma, Missouri will meet Kansas at Lawrence and Kansas State plays host to Colorado. Iowa State's series with Kansas last week end was cancelled by rain and the Cyclones have played only four games this spring. They dropped a doubleheader to Kansas State in the Big Eight opener and are 1-3 overall. Iowa State is slated to play Drake today. Kansas State dropped three games to Oklahoma State the past week end as the Cow boys extended their overall record to 9-0. In other action the past week end Oklahoma and Colorado split a doubleheader Saturday after being snowed out Friday. The Sooners won the opener, 10-9, and Colo rado copped the second game, 6-1. The Persians playing in a league of five teams went un defeated in a four-game round robin tournament to win the independent championship. Tied for fourth place were Law College and Phi Epsilon Kappa with no wins and three defeats. Geneva All-Stater Chooses Nebraska , Larry Bornschlegl, all-state basketball player from Gen eva, will enroll at Nebraska next fall, Coach Jerry Bush announced. "At 5-10, Bornschlegl is not big but he is goo d," Bush said, adding that Larry was much sought after for his backcourt play. In addition to being a stand out basketball player, Born schlegl is an above average student and a good baseball player. The training is in the form of competetive sport, designed to develop and cultivate the skill and powers inherent in man. A man in judo trains to de velop poise, confidence, re straint, .and gentleness, to gether with coordination and agility. A contest in judo is not an end, but a part and means of training as well as a test of skill. It is called Shiai or trial match. A match usually lasts five minutes or until a point is scored. A point is awarded for a clean throw or an ef fective choke or a hold for 30 seconds. If there is no decid ing point scored the referee may award a decision. Theta Xi Wins IM Squash Title Theta Xi won the IM Squash championship in a tournament of four eight-man teams. The sport, a cross between handball and paddle ball, was discontinued because of lack of interest in the past two years. Al Cummings of Phi Delta Theta won the individual champion honors and brought his team within one point of the team crown. Phi Gamma Delta and Del ta Tau Delta finished jut the chart in the tight competitive sport, as only ten points sepa rated the first and fourth place winners.
