Every Wigfif Inside View (Continued from page 2) seems Egyptian, colors in both sets clash and inter fere, and supposedly solid columns shake when touched. The closest the pro duction comes to Grek art is the program! Costumes are colorful, but appear stitchy and cheap despite some interesting de signs. The neckline of Hel en's costume in Act Two is one of the most exciting things about the play. Inci dental music is interesting and the masks were lovely! Lighting is extremely poor. In the third act, actors walk in and out of light. An other single spotlight, sup posedly (?) a star, appears on Helen accompanied by an audible 'twink. (Any thing to do with "Twinkle, twinkle, little star"?) I fail to see the meaning of this distinct, comic sound. Characterization suffers from the poor script and di rection. Joe Hill, as Mene laus, the 4mere husband,' is most believable, but is often retarded and stilted. Leta Powell, Helen, is, at times, very good particularly dur ing the 'immortality' speeches to herself and to the audience and, at other times, almost characturish dramatic poses with the columns. Dennis Shreefer's Lukas is more like Hercu les, and he is only adequate as the grape merchant. Sharron Purbaugh's Me lina is the 'Peck's Bad Girl' stereotype. She does not vary her part. Margery Coffey, as Aithra, looks well on stage, but the actress limits herself to closed, waist gestures and an al most elocution-like speaking voice. Mary Teale and Bon nie Benda. as Emilia and Calizia, both overact their A Model for model... thprp arp Itt (Xwvrotvls lotrer k priced than any other fall-sized ear: Leave it to these Jet -smooth Chevies to go easy on j'our family budget! Jenise Burmood, as Charissa, Me ltna's mother, had some characterization, but she needs experience and direc tion. . . Helen says, "A woman tells her story to many men." Certainly, the story of Helen of Troy has been told by many men. With the numerous stories and novels and plays about the woman, I find her some f what boring. Why . can't authors find something less familiar to write about? In the future, as Univer sity Theater continues its national - playwriting con tests, I would suggest that the winning play be pre 'sented as a special offering and not a part of the regu lar theater season. Then the new, original drama could be appreciated by a selec tive, interested audience and not forced on the sea son ticket holder. In conclusion, "Lady of Eternal Springtime" is a big disappointment. Of the many university Theater pro ductions. I have seen and worked on, Mr. Sabath's en deavor seems to be the worst. Perhaps it could be sold to an Italian film mak er for a Steve Reeves-Gina Lollobrigida spectacular. UNITED CAMPUS CHRIS TIAN FELLOWSHIP - Judge W. W. As tlie toinrnuxucations needs of our nation become steadily greater And more complex, die Bell Telephone System is continuing itn pioneer work in microwave by "taking to the ir" more and more to get the word across. Ta this end, Western Electric the manu facturing arm of tlie BeD System hag the monumental task of producing a large part of tlie microwave transmission equipment that louts our country together by shrinking thou sands of miles into mere seconds. in spite of its great technological strides, tlie science of radio relay ii a rapidly-changing one. And new break-throughs and advances are common occurrences. A case in point: our j Bell System TH" Microwave Kadio , Kelay. Tlii newest development in long-distance telephone transmission "will eventuidly triple tlie present message-carrying capacity of exist ing long-haul radio relay itiBtullations. A full scale system of 6 working and 2 protetrtiou channels can handle 11,000 telephone mes sages at the same time. To make microwave work takes a host of special equipmeut and components: relay towers, antennae, waveguides, tra'ehng wave tubes, transistors, etc. But just as important. it takes top-caliber people to help us broaden our horizons into such exciting new areas as communication by satellites! And microwave is only part of Western Electrics opportunity story. We have-right now hundreds of challenging and rewarding positions in virtually all areas of telephony, as well as in development and building of defense communications and missile guidance systems fur die Government. So, if your future is "up in the air," you owe it to your career to see "what's up" for you at Western Electric.
