Husker Swimmer Gains Nod For Nebraskan Star Award By Cloyd Clark Joe Stocker, senior captain of the Husker swim team set a varsity record in the 200 yL individual medley against Gustavus Adolphus last week end to win the Daily Nebras kan Star of the Week award. Until last week end Stocker had specialized in the breast stroke, but swimming coach Betas Cop Title In Deep Water Basketball, 434 Beta Theta Pi won the all- University championship tro phy for the second year in deep water basketball by downing runner-up Phi Delta Theta, 43-4. Stocker is now record hold er in two events on the NU varsity swimming chart. He chopped four seconds from the old medley record with his 2:21.6 performance last weekend and swam the 200-yard breast stroke in 2:28.8 to establish a record in that event in a freshman-varsity dual earlier this season. The 2:28.8 in the breast stroke would have won the event in the Big Eight confer ence last year. Although both performances set records on the varsity swimming charts, Stocker doesn't credit either as his top thrill. He says his number one thrill was a 200-yr. butterfly victory against Kansas State last year. "It's not a record, its just the fact that I was able to do it." Stocker said. Swimming coach Dick Klaas describes Stocker as, "The leader of the squad as a quar terback is to a football team." Klass hopes that Stocker will be able to cut his time enough to enter the NCAA meet in March. Gus II, Phi Lead Track Kappa Psi Qualifiers By Chip Wood .
