Iowa Slate Teachers
Is Opening Opponent

With a 70-40 victory over the freshmen Monday night
under their belts, Nebraska's cagers enter the regular cam
paign at 8 p.m. Thursday against invading Iowa State Teach
ers College.

The Panthers from Cedar
Falls, Iowa, will be making
their first start of the season.
Iowa State Teachers finished
in second place in the North
Central conference last sea
son and have 11,.. returning
lettermen.
The Panthers, won 15 and
lost eight last season and
are expected to battle it put
with Augustana for the top
rung in the conference this
season. , ; ;
The list of lettermen is led
by 6-5 Jim Jackson who is
considered the best rebounder
in Iowa State Teachers his
tory. The Teachers averaged
76.4 points-per-game a year
ago while giving up 69.8
points-per-contest.
Husker coach Jerry Bush
will probably start the same
lineup that opened against
the frosh. This would find
Jim Kowalke (6-3) and Jan
Wall (6-6) at forwards, Tom
Russell (6-7) at center, Rex
Swett (6-1) and Al Roots (6-2)
at guards.
Roots and Kow&lke are tne
lone seniors with the others
being juniors. Four of the
starters hit in double figures
against the freshmen with
Roots leading the way with
15 points.
Russell contributed
13 points in an impressive
debut as a Husker. The 6-7
center found the range with
twisting jump shots and also
pulled down his share of the
rebounds off both the offens
ive and defensive boards.
With Roots and Russell in
the-lineup, Nebraska has two
former :: junior college all
Americans. Roots was an all
American at Pueblo, Colo.,

title with 22 points. Tonni
Coane finished third for Kan

and George Cabrera took
fourth and fifth respectively

9:41.1.
Missouri's Tigers finished
second in the team standings
with 43 points and Nebraska
took third with 57.
Nebraska's Andy Steele
turned in a 9:49.1 for 11th
place. Stuart Tucker took 13th
with a 9:50.9 just a whisker
ahead of teammate Tony Cruz
who finished with a 9:51 for
14th position.
Husker Jim Lewis, clocked
in 9:56.0, finished 17th and
Woody Moore with a 9:58 0
took 19th. Tom Sitzman took
46th with an 11:00.1.

fourth with 111 points, and
Oklahoma placed fifth with
159. Kansas state landed sixth

Teams Unbeaten

Twenty-two intramural basketball teams remain unde
feated after two weeks of play.
Sigma Chi A (2-0) is the only undefeated team in league
1, Farm House (2-0) in league 2, Alpha Gamma Sigma (3-0)
in league 3, Burnett (3-0) in league 6, and Delta Tail Delta B
(3-0) in league 9.
Gus I and Manatt are cur
rently vying for the league 4
crown. Both squads sporrt 3-0
records.
Canfield leads League 5
with a 2-0 record and Boucher
and Seaton II, also in the
same league, are 1-0.
Dental College (3-0) leads
league 7 and the Nationals
and Play Boys, both 2-0, head
league 8.
Four teams remain un
defeated in league -11. The
Fhi'Delts and the ATO's are
2-0 and Phi Kappa Psi and
Sigma Chi are 1-0.

head League 12 with 2-0 rec
