The Husker sophomore led what offense Nebraska could generate against ColoVado Satur day with 80 yards on 19 plays and the only touchdown. The Husker sophomore from Toledo, Ohio, has gotten away on only one long run this season and that was a 57 yarder. He was the workhorse Saturday at Colorado with his 19 carries and is the leading rusher among the Huskers in number of plays. Thornton has carried the ball 71 tmies and gained 308 yards for a 4.3 average. Nearly all of the yardage has come against stacked defen sive lines. The fact that Thornton has lost only three yards in his 71 carries against nine-man lines attests to his running power. Thornton scored the only Nebraska touchdown against the Buffs Saturday. All games are scheduled for 5:10 p.m. and will be played on the city fields. In Wednesday's action Sig ma Chi A goes against Sigma' Alpha Mu, Ag Men play Al pha Tau Omega A, Phi Gam ma Delta A plays Cornhusker, and Pioneer meets Phi Kap pa Psi A. Thursday's games include the Canfield-Smith winner vs. Benton, and the Fairfield Seaton I winner vs. Selleck. Canfield, Smith, Fairfield, and Seaton I played last night Non-tournament games to be played Thursday are Phi Kappa Psi B vs. Sigma Chi B, and Law College vs. Senior Dents. Huskers Finish Second in Cross Country Meet Nebraska's cross country team finished second in a tri angular meet with Colorado State University and Colorado at Boulder, Saturday. CSU placed first with 19 points, Nebraska followed with 47, and Colorado was last with 55. Ray Stevens finished third over the windy three mile course in 16:10. Bill Kenny came in 8th, Clarence Scott 11th. Rich Kier 12th, Joe Scott 13th. and Paul Nielsen 15th. The Huskers will host Mis souri this weekend in the last home meet. Two Collect IM Crowns Two league titles were de cided in Monday's intramural football play as Sigma Alpha Mu defeated Beta Sgima fsi 19-9, and Phi Gamma Delta defeted Farm House 27-13. The Phi Gams have a 5-0 record in league 2 and the Sammies are now 4-0 in league 3. The other action Phi Kappa Psi A defeated Kappa Sigma 19-6 to earn the Phi Psi's a berth in the championship playoffs, and Alpha Tau Omega A defeated Theta Xi A 9-7 to give the ATO's the runner-up spot in league 2. Cornhusker took the league 3 runner-up spot by virtue of a 224 win over Brown Palace. By Janet Srk Kansas University's fresh men defeated the Nebraska freshman c r o o s country team, 24-32Mt, in a postal meet. John Portee placed second for Nebraska over the two mile coursein 9:34.8. Por tee's time was four-tenths of a second behind KUrs Allan Carius who won in 9:34.4. Nebraska's Tony Cruz tied for third with Don Hladik in 9:51. Stuart Tucker tied for fifth with KU's George Ca brera in 9:54, and .Husker IM Cross Country Run Set Tonight The intramural fall cross country run will be held to night on the Stadium track at 5:00 p.m. Each fraternity, resident hall, or other organized group may enter three men in the mile and 880-yd. runs. Woody Moore tied for ninth with Tonni Coane in 10:03. Jim Lewis of Nebraska fin ished 11th in 10:12 and Andy Steele finished 12th for th Huskers with 10:12.4. Husker Bowlers Open With Win Nebraska opened the bowl ing season, with a win over Seward Concordia. The winner of the thre game team match Was de termined by the number of total pins. Nebraska won all three games: the first 939 to 888. the second 841 to 777, and the third 861 to 810. The Huskers total pins was 2641 to Seward Concordia's 2473. Nebraska's team consisted of Ralph Holmstrom, Dick Haase, Dave Shepard, Dick Babst, and Marv Cohn.
