THERE'S A POINT CHOICE OF S3-ONE IB CUBTOM-FITTBO FOR VOOI
ing to Cyclone coach Clay
Stapleton.
"Hoppman is larger, has
better speed and is a better
athlete than Dwight Nichols
was," said the Iowa State
leader Monday. "I look for
him to go further than Nich
ols did. His passing is very
good."
The sophomore tailback is
leading the Big Eight in rush
ing with an 8.2 average, in
passing with eight comple
tions out of 15 attempts for
120 yards, and in scoring with
24 points.
Nebraska will be trying to
stop the powerful single wing
attack of the Cyclones and
will probably have to accomp
lish the trick without the
services of two tackles. Tri
captain Ron McDole and
tackle Al Fischer are both
on the doubtful list for Sat
urday's contest
McDole is suffering from
first and second degree burns
and Fischer is bothered by a
knee strain.
The Huskers will have the
services of sophomore quar
terback Dennis Claridge for
the Cyclone clash. Claridge,
a transfer from Minnesota,
was forced to sit out a year
because of the transfer. He
was voted the outstanding
player in the Minnesota High
School All Star football game
a little over a year ago.
Speaking of Saturday's con
test, Stapleton said, "Ninety
points against Drake and De
troit is nol; too impressive
when you consider who Ne
braska played." The Cyclones
blanked Drake, 46-0, and
toppled Detroit, 44-21.

Thornton Leads Husker
Rushers After 2 Games
Thunder Thornton leads
Nebraska's rushers with a six
yard average per carry.
The sophomore fullback has
carried the ball 19 times for
a total of 114 yards. Trail
ing Thornton in the rushing
department are Clay White
with a 3.8 average and Pat
Clare with an average of 3.3
yards per carry.
Thornton, White and Clare
rank in the same order in the
total offense statistics. The
Husker passing attack has
been something less than sen
sational with three intercep
tions in 12 tosses.
Ron Meade has completed
tour of six passing attempts i
with one interception. Pat Fis
cher has completed one of six
and the opposition has pirated
two of Fischer's aerials.
Archie Cobb's booming
punts have averaged 41.7
yards and have been a major
reason for the short yardage
by opponents in the punt re
turn department. Nebraska
opponents have returned
