The Hus kers will return home to face St. Cloud State Teachers Col lege April 14. They will host Missouri in an important conference ser ies. April 15 and 16. The baseball, golf and tennis squads will all head south for a week. The baseball team, which left for Kansas State yesterday will play a two game stand at Manhattan nd then head for Tulsa. Bill Smith's golfers will head for Soonerland, playing their first match of the season Monday at Norman. The tennis team, also confining their competition to Kansas and Oklahoma, will meet Tulsa on Monday and move to Oklahoma State the next day. - Although the snow has finally left us, the weather still seems to be the controling factor as far as spring football is concerned. Coach Bill Jennings announced the other day that practice sessions would start April 18, weather permitting. Jennings said that four to five practice s'essions a week will -be held, again depend ing on the weather. The Coach had originally hoped to start the practice drills earlier in the month but the "weather didn't permit it. Now the pri mary hardship of time falls on the individual players themselves. With sessions four or five times a week, footballers are going to have to hussle, not only on the prac tice field, but in their spare time. Jennings also announced that the drills will end on either May 14 or May 18, which will be a week after All Sports Day, scheduled for May 7. Jennings said, "We will start with the basic fundamentals including agility drills, basic blocking and tackling and de fensive drills. We will quickly move into teamwork, however, as the first scrimmage will be held during the fourth or fifth session.", A month ago Jennings, anticipating an earlier start, re leased his intended roster. There were a number of changes in the line up. Leading the changing-position list were the names of Don Fricke and Pat Fischer. Fricke has been shifted back to the center position he occupied his Sophomore year, while Pat was designated to fill the gap in the quarterback slot. April 19 will be the day most of the Big Eight schools will shift into spring drills. Iowa State's coach, Clay Stapleton said, "We had planned an April 4 start, but the ground wasn't firm enough. We would not gain a thing by trying to start that early. Since we would also have a four day Easter break we decided to delay until April 19. W7e may not get in the full 20 drills that way but the weather should be better." UndeVr' NCAA rules each school is allowed 20 practice sessions. Nebraska isn't the only school doing some major shifting during the spring sessions. Kansas University reports that John Hadl an all-Big Eight halfback last year will be shifted to the quarterback position. About the switch Coach Jack Mitchell said, "We feel like we can use Hadl's passing ability and his general football instinct to more advantage at quarterback and at the same time have a little more speed at left half to make up for part of his loss" from that position." Hadl demonstrated his "general football instinct" dur ing the KU-Nebraska game when he flipped the winning touchdown pass to give the Jayhawks a 10-3 victory. His re ceiver, Dale Remsberg, had slipped to his knees in the end zone. Hadl quickly lowered his sights to line a throw squarely on target. - vi TheMissouri Tigers report that 67 candidates checked in for their first drill session April 29. Coach Dan Devine will go into action in the fall with 19 lettermen back from last fall's Orange Bowl squad. The Tigers plan to end their drill sessions on May 7. The cheerleaders, headed this year by Yell King Al Krizelman, bolstered their squad with the addition of three male students, and two girls. Although only five new members were chosen to the squad, an estimated 100 Freshman students yelled their lungs out last week during tryouts at the Coliseum. Heading -the list of new members is gymnast Louie Burkey. Burkel drew a few "wows" from the crowd during the tryouts when he came onto the floor doing a series of back flips and hand springs. Who knows, maybe we'll have a "Golden Girl" at Ne braska next year, like the one at Purdue.
