"Die Fledermaus" or "The Bat," is set in Vienna in the year 1874, with most of the ac tion taking place in the palace of Prince Orlofsky. The atmosphere and flavor of the period have been pre served by means of elaborate and colorful costuming, Prof. Lishner, said. He described the opera as "having the character of an operetta." It is considered a masterpiece of its kind, being a light, melodious production which has been enjoyed for years in theaters throughout the world. The tunes are familiar to many because they have be come part of the popular cp erettic class of music of the world, Prof. Lishner noted. Among the best known are "Laughing Song" and "Czar das". The lyrics for this particu lar nroduction were written by Howard Dietz and Garson Kanir, both of.whora have done work on Broadway. Their presentation is pre sented in a manner which brings the opera closer to us through use of present-day language and colloquialisms, Prof. Lishner said. The opera will have a full orchestra accompaniment for the first time in several years. There also will be a chorus in addition to the regular casts. Two eight-member casts will perform on alternate eve nings, each cast performing two evenings. Members of the casts in clude Amer Lincoln and Gene Dybdahl as Eisenstein; Diane Butherus and Gayle Johnson as Roselinda; Virginia Dux bury and Judy Lawrence as Adele; Irvin Pearson and Cal Carlson as Blind, Wayne Robertson and Ken Scheffel will play the role of Alfred; Norman Riggins and Bill Hatcher will play Frank; Lou Lawson and Richard Mor ris will play the role of Falke; and Paula Knepper and Syl- UNIVERSITY B00KST0 RE 'Truly The Students Store' 31 FOR YOUR USED BOOKS We pay 50 of NEW BOOK PRICE for ced books in good condition if authorized to be used again on our campus.
