The Huskers opened the season Tuesday with a 73-46 come-from-behind victory over Stewart Air Force Base. Nebraska trailed 30-26 at halftime but turned on the steam in the second half scoring 47 points while hold ing the Golden Falcons to only 16. - Swett To Start Al Maxey and Herschell Turner led the scoring in that game with 18 and 17 points respectively. Rex Swett, a 6-1 sophomore from Huron, S.D. earned a starting berth for tomorrow night with his performance against the Stewart quintet. Swett scored nine points and pulled down several re bounds for the Huskers Tues day. Head coach Jerry Bush announced a starting lineup consisting of Maxey (6-3), Turner (6-112), Bob Harry (6-6), Jim Kowalke (6-3) and Swett (6-1). This is the same lineup that started Tuesday night's game with the excep tion of Swett for Wayne Hes ter. The Huskers will enjoy a height advantage for one of the few times this year as the tallest Air Force player is 6-4. The Academy has raised its height limit two inches, however, to 6-6. Byers, a 5-11, 140-pound senior from Lincoln, finished fifth in the NCAA sidehorse last ye and is being counted on to lead the Huskers again this year. He was the only Nebraskan In the NCAA meet last year but scored enough points to place the Huskers 17th in a field of 26. "Byers will be competing against some top Olympic and Pan-American gymnasts Fri: day and Saturday but we ex pect him to do real well," said Geier. Wolfswinkel who averaged 10.3 points per game last year will captain the Falcons this season. The Air Force Academy compiled a 14-9 record last year while playing a ball control type game. They al lowed an average of only 59 points per game last year with only two teams scoring more than 70 points against them. Drake defeated the Falcons 71-56 and Regis College scored 76 points in a losing cause as the Air Force scored 79. The Falcons open the 1959 '60 campaign against Creigh ton at Omaha tonight.
