Monday, November 23, 1959 Te Daily Nebraskcn Page 3 Loss to Il-btate Geier Begins 1 Oth Season As NU Gymnastics Coach Jake Geier will begin his tenth season as head gymnas tics coach at Nebraska when his Husker squad opens the season with the Midwest In vitational Meet at Chicago Dec. 4 and 5. In the past nine years, Ge ier's teams have won 48 of 68 dual matches for a percent age of .706 and nine of 12 tri angular matches for a .750 percentage. In the three tir- angulars which the Huskers did not win, they finished sec ond. Geier's teams have won the All-College Invitational meet six of the last eight years and only once since 1954 have Ne braska's .gymnasts finished lower than 19th in the NCAA championships. The preliminaries' will be gin at 5 p.m. in the Coliseum pool and entries will be ac cepted in the pool prior to the events. The six fastest times in the swimming events and seven highest diving scores will qualify for the finals Dec. 8. "As a team, we should fare as well as last season with the possi bility of becoming a bit stronger depending on how our sophomores come along," he says. "Our strong events will be the side horse and flying rings with good balance in the other events," Geier admit ted. Letterwinners Dennis An stine and Karl Byers re turn in the side horse with sophomore Gene Hart and junior Paul Kotsines lending support in that event. ..Byers finished fifth in the side horse event at the NCAA championships last year and led the Huskers to a 6-2 dual season record. "Byers, a two-letter winner from Lincoln, should be one of the top performers in the midwest, and should place high in national competition," said Geier. From here on, it was all Kansas State as Nebraska failed to penetrate Wildcat territory the remainder of the ball game. Kansas State scored two more touchdowns on a one yard plunge by Max Falk and a 20-yard pass play from Blaylock to Evans with French adding the extra points. The Wildcats trapped Tolly in the end sone for a safety as the Husker quarterback at tempted to pasu.
