' By Dave Wohlfarth This week's Daily Nebras kan star of the week is a familiar name in this depart ment. He's Carroll Zaruba. who turned in an outstanding performance to spark the Huskers past Colorado, 14-12. Zaruba has been 'Star of the Week' twice before, gain ing recognition for his per formances in the '58 and '59 Kansas games. His play this year has enabled the veteran halfback to wind up a highly successful career at Nebras ka. He hauled in TD passes in both the Oregon State and Ten Seniors To Captain NU Again By Norm Beatty The Huskers went through a defensive scrimmage Tues day in preprration for the Kansas State game. The stress was on the "spread formation" used by the Wild cats. Freshman quarter backs Ernest Bonistall and John Faiman played the role of K-State's quarterback, John Solmos. Coach Bill Jennings put his nearly-full-streneth s a u a d through their first outside practice this week. The only player held out of the contact drill was iniured junior halfback Pat Fischer. Jennings said that he expects Fischer to be ready by Saturday. As in last week's victorv over Colorado, the 10 seniors will again share the captain duties. The ten seniors who will be ending their collegiate foot ball careers are left ends Roger Brede and Guy Sapp. right end Max Martz, right tackle . Duane Mongerson, right guards Dale Siemer and LeRoy Zentic, center Jim Tolly, halfback Carroll Zaru ba and fullback Bill Bohan- an. A win would give Nebraska an opportunity for a four-way tie for third place in the fi nal Big Eight standings with an overall record of 5 wins and 5 losses and a conference mark of 3-3. Indiana games this year. In both games, these were the only scores for Nebraska, as the Huskers edged OS 7-6, and lost to Indiana 23-7. 73-Yard Run Saturday, Zaruba broke through right tackle for a 73- yard TD scamper which turned out to be the winning touchdown. Zaruba is a 5' 9", 200-ptund, senior letterman. He is active in W Club and Phi Epslloa Kappa. He is single and in Teacher's College. 'Pappy' hopes to celebrate his 26th birthday, Mpnday, with a victory over K-State. He states, "We have to win the K-State game to make the season even. We should do it." Fullerton Grad Zaruba hails from Fullerton where he received eight let ters, participating In football, basketball and track. He at tended Doane for one year where he lettered ' in track and football. Next, he played two years of football with the Camp Lejune, N.C., Marines before coming to Nebraska. Pappy's top thrill at Ne b r a s k a was beating Okla homa, who he lists as the toughest team the Huskers faced this year.
