games. They are Iowa State,

All three have 3-2 records
with Missouri playing at Kan
sas and Iowa State at Okla
homa Saturday. If Iowa State
loses to Oklahoma, then the
winner of the Missouri-Kansas
game would receive the
bid.

Missouri Romps
Missouri had little trouble
in romping to a 26-0 win over
Kansas State despite the fact
that two of their first-string
backs were unable to play
and the other two were
slowed by injuries.

first downs - and 94 yards
rushing and passing.
Kansas broke a six-game
Oklahoma State winning
streak with a 28-14 win in a
non-conference game. The
Jayhawks first two touch
downs came on runs of 32
yards by John Hadl and 41
yards by Curtis McClinton as
Kansas built up a 28-6 half
time lead.
The Cowboy's passing ace,
Dick Soergel, was injured in
the first half and did not play
in the second half.
Cyclones Win
r. Iowa State racked up 55
points while holding San Jose
State, the nation's number
two passing ttam, scoreless.
It was the Cyclones seventh
win of the season against two
losses with Oklahoma re
maining on the schedule.
Iowa State scored five
times in the first half to
take a 34-0 lead at the half-
time break. End Don Webb
opened the scoring by run
ning the opening kickoff back
77 yards for a touchdown.
Dwight Nichols, Iowa
State's talented tailback,
scored three touchdowns and
passed for another as he
gained 149 yards rushing and
passing.
The victory gives Iowa
State their best record since
1938 when they won seven,
lost one and tied one. It was
Table Tennis
Entries Are
Due Tuesday
The closing date for entries
in the intramural table tennis
tournament is Tuesday at
p.m. Six-man team entries
must be turned into Room
102 of the Physical Educa
tion Building.
Play will begin Dec. 1 with
separate flights for fraternity,
resident halls and indepen
dent entries. The winners in
each flight will play; for the
all-university championship.
The intramural department
will.rovide tables and pad
dles with each player provid
ing his own tennis balls. All
matches will be played in the
Coliseum basement and a
schedule of matches for each
day will be posted in the
Physical Education Building.
A trophy will be awarded
to the team champions and
medals will be given to indi
vidual winners.

Nebraska's 14-12 win over
Colorado, Saturday, assured
Coach Bill Jennings of his
best season since becoming
head coach at Nebraska in
1957.
The win gives the Huskers
4-5 record with Kansas
State coming up Saturday at
Manhattan. In his first year
at the helm, Jennings squad
won only one game, that be
ing a 14-7 win over the Wild
cats at Manhattan.
Steady Improvement
Last year, Nebraska im
proved their record to 3-7
with big upsets over Penn
State and Pittsburgh high
lighting the season and with
Saturday's victory over Colo
rado, Nebraska has improved
on last year's record.
-Two long runs in the first
quarter gave Nebraska the
win over the Buffs as the
Huskers staved off a torrid
Colorado passing attack in the
last half.
The first score came with
only 2:43 gone In the first
quarter when the Husker's
Don Fricke intercepted a pass
from the talented arm of Colo
rado quarterback Gale Weid
ner and returned it 62 yards
unmolested for the touch
down. Sophomore quarter
back Ron Meade's perfect
placekick made it 7-0 in favor
of Nebraska.
After the two teams ex
changed punts twice, Colo
rado marched 38 yards for
their first score with 11:21
gone in the first quarter.
Colorado Score
The Buffs took over on the
Nebraska 38 and needed only
six plays to push the ball
over the goal line with Jerry
Steffen and Dave Rife carry
ing the ball.
The big play was a 24-yard
run by Steffen, a 191-pound
junior halfback from Crof
ton, Nebr., which put the ball
on the six-yard line.
After Rife gained four
yards, Steffen bulled his way
over in two plays. A pass
from Weidner intended for
Chuck Weiss was incomplete
for -the extra point try and
the Huskers still led 7-6.
Pappy Scores
It took Nebraska just three
plays, after Gary Henson
kicked off into the end zone,
to score again. With a third
down and three situation on
the Husker 27, Carroll "Pap
py" Zaruba broke loose and
galloped 73 yards for the
final Nebraska touchdown.
Meade's magic toe was
again ushered into the game
for the extra point try and
he split the uprights to give
the Huskers a 14-6 edge as
the first quarter came to an
end.
That wrapped up the scor
ing until early in the fourth
quarter when Weidner capped
a 64-yard drive by sneaking
over from the two-yard line
with 58 seconds gone in the
final period.
Weiss intercepted a Ne
braska pass on the Colorado
36 and Weidner threw 10 con
secutive passes carrying the
Buffs to the Nebraska 12-yard
line.
Rife picked up a first down
in two playt, and Weidner
then carried the pigskin into
the end zone. The Buffs tried
to tie the game with a pass
play from Weidner to Hen-
son but it was incomplete ana
Nebraska led 14-12.
Passing Attack
It was now a question of
whether the Huskers could
stop Weidner's aerial assault.
After receiving the kickoff,
Nebraska punted into the
Colorado end zone and the
Buffs looked like they were

Colorado took over with
two and one-half minutes to
play and 26,000 spectators
moved to the edge of their
seats as Weidner began to
fill the air with footballs.
After moving to a first and
ten on the Nebraska 25, the
Huskers pass defense stiff
ened as Weidner threw four
incomplete passes.
Nebraska took over with
one minute remaining and
Tolly just fell on the ball for
two plays as the clock ran
out giving Nebraska their
second conference win.
Colorado led the Huskers
in first downs with 18 to Ne
braska's 11 and the Buffs
gained a total of 371 yards
to Nebraska's 240.
The Huskers outrushed
Colorado 217 yards to 182
yards but were outpassed 189
to 23 yards.
Nebraska lost the ball three
times on fumbles and had
three passes intercepted. Both
teams were penalized four
times for a total ot 30 yards,
Zaruba Leads
Zaruba closed out his home
football career with a 7.2
yard average. He carried the
ball 18 times and gained 129
yards.
Colorado used 73 plays with
37 of them being passes by
Weidner. He completed 16 for
189 yards. Steffen and Weiss
led the Colorado rushers with
72 and 69 yards respectively,
The win gave Nebraska a
series edge over Colorado of
nine wins against eight losses
and one tie. It also gives Ne
braska possession of the Buf
falo head again.
The Nebraka victory also
broke three-game winning
streak for the Buffs this sea
son and was the first Nebras
ka win over Colorado since
1955.

favor of Syracuse, Jim Rag
lin of the Lincoln Journal
commented, "They (Colgate)
don't have their protective

Water Basketball
Championships
Set for Tuesda'
Championship games in the
intramural water basketball
tournament will be played
Tuesday with the first game
beginning at 7 p.m.
Beta Theta Pi will meet
Phi Delta Theta for the deep
water championship in the
first game and Theta Xi taxes
on Beta Theta Pi for the shal
low water crown.
