Friday, November 6, 1 959 The Daily Nebrcskan Pag 3 Orange Bowl Hopes at Stake As Huskers Meet Iowa State Nebraska will be trying to keep their Big Eight Orange Bowl hopes aliye when they travel to Ames for an impor tant test with Iowa State, The Huskers and Cyclones are both in the running for the. bowl berth but the loser will be eliminated. Nebraska, has a 1-2 conference record and Iowa State owns a 2-2 mark. i The Huskers have losses to Kansas and Missouri and an upset win over Oklahoma while the Cyclones have dropped games to Missouri and Kansas with wins over Colorado and Kansas State. Nebraska's defenses must stop the Iowa State single wing which includes hard running backs Dwight Nich ols, Mike Fitzgerald and Tom Watkins. Tailback Chuck 'Stacey's passing arm led the Phi Psi's to the championship as they completed the season without a loss. Stacey hit Bob Eyth with apass for the first Phi Psi score. Bob Knapple and John Haessler connected on a long pass in the second quarter to pull Phi Delta Phi into a 6-6 halftime deadlock. Stacey found the mark shortly after the halftime break with another pass to Eyth giving the Phi Psi's the lead. Stacey completed the scoring with another pass to Eyth for the extra point. Gail Hodgson of Oklahoma broke the Kansas string of individual champions at 11 last year with a time of 14:00.4 over the three-mile course. ! The Jayhawks had won first place every year since 1947 until Hodgson snapped the string.
