Basketball Wizard Tops NU Athletes Majors in Commercial Art Royal Canadians Take Hockey Championships Hockey, the newest and most exciting of the intra mural sports closed its first season Wednesday night with a game between the champion , Royal Canadians and the All-Stars. The Royal Canadians started fast and protected their perfect 12-0 season. Most of the scoring took place in the first period and it was in this period that the Royal Canadians copped the advantage. Dick Thompson of the Royal Canadians opened the scoring early in the first pe riod with a goal. Terry Moshier added another for the Canadians and Ron Mitsch drove in another to give the Canadians a 3-0 lead. However, the All-Stars flashed back on goals by Joe Vaccaro and Lance Reeder to close the gap to 3-2 before Mitsch added his 2nd score of the match to give the Can adians a 4-2 lead. The third period was the most spirited and yet the one with the least scoring. Up to the third period, there were no penalties called on either tesm; but in the third there were three. With ten minutes left in the game Wally Bryans sank a goal but it was nullified for an infraction of the rules. Then with eight minutes left, Lance Reeder hit a goal to cut the Canadian lead to 5-4. With seven minutes remain ing, a tripping penalty was called against the Canadians and they were forced to play with only four men. How ever the All-Stars were un able to press their advantage and the final horn sounded with the Royal Canadians out in front 5-4. The two goalies Bob Otten of the Canadians and Steve Cohen of the All-Stars per formed brilliantly throughout the game. Both made several saves that could have changed the whole outlook of the game. Next year, the intramural department hopes to add an other league. This year, there was just one league com posed of eight teams. In regular season play, the teams played three 15 min ute periods but in Wednes day's game they played three 20 minute periods. Ron Mitsch, who was the league's high scorer with 42 goals and who sank three more for the Canadians in the championship game, is working for his PhD.
