The only Husker record came in the 200-yard back stroke. Frank Tomson swam the distance in 2:24.0 which betters the old record of . 2:25.5 set by Roger Cora of the Huskers this year. KU Gains Revenge Earlier this season, the Huskers edged Kansas 43-41; but the Jayhawkers gained ad ditional strength in several events. Branch Walton's win . in the diving and Tomson's backstroke victory accounted for the two Husker firsts. Ed Poort of Kansas was the only double winner of the meet. He set a new meet rec ord in the fiO-yard freestyle and copped the 100-yard free style. Several top times were turned in by the Huskers in the meet. The Husker 400 yard medley relay posted a 4 : 10.6 which is their best time of the season and also just 0.5 of a second off the winning time. Rucklin's Rest Ron Bucklin swam his best time in the 200-yard butterfly with 2:33.5, and Dale Voss racked up a time of 5:11.0 in the 400-yard freestyle. Royal Canadian 9-0 Record Is Tops in IM Ice Hockey League Huskers Rapped by Kam Host Buff Cagers Tonight Phi Gams and Gus I Tied For Runner up Spot By Keith Bland The Royal Canadians intra mural hockey team is firmly placed in the top bracket with wins and 0 losses as com petition has reached the half way mark for hte season. Leading the Royal Canad ians in the scoring column U Ron Mitsch. He has accum ulated 33 goals and 13 assist foi a total of 46 points in the first nine games. So far he is also the highest individual scorer for any of the eight teams in competition. Bryans Second Wally Bryans is second ir. command for the Royal Ca nadians with 15 goals and 3 assists for a total of 18 point and Fred Phelps follows closely behind with 8 goals and 9 assists for a total of 17 points. Total points for the Royal Canadians is IS with 777 goals for themselves and 10 goals made by their opponents. The Phi Gams occupy half of the second slot with 6 wins and 3 losses by making a total of 52 goals against their op ponents 23 goals to accum mulate 12 teams points so far Pht Gam Leaders Joe Hart heads the Phi Gam scoring column with 29 points gathered by 16 goals and 4 assists. Joe Vaccaro and Dick Thompson both have 17 total points with 13 goals and 4 assists and 14 goals and ? for the league with 20 goals and 5 assists for a total of 23 points. Phi Delta Fourth Phi Delts hold down fourth with 5 wins and 4 losses for 10 team points so far this season. Eteve Rosenblatt is leading the Phi Delts with 17 total points brought up by 11 sroals and 6 assists. Phi Psis have accumulated 4 wins and 5 losses to place them in the fifth bracket with By Randall Lambert Coach Dick Harp and his Kansas Jayhawks should be satisfied. For the second straight weekend they beat the Huskers to avenge their loss to the Huskers last year, when they were in the middle of the c o n f e rence race. The Jay birds went from a 32-19 halftime lead to stop the Husk ers 66-50. Kowalke Probably the most encour aging thing to come out of the contest was the play of Gentleman Jim" Kowalke. Most of his baskets were in the sec end half and at one time pul led the Husker j within 9 points ot Kansas. Nebraska's scoring twosome of Maxey and Turner were held to a minimum perform ance. The Buffs stopped the Husk ers in their first conference game 57-50 with a last minute splurge. They also won over Nebraska, 54-50, in the second round of the Big Eight Basket ball Tournament. Buffs Win Last Colorado beat Iowa State at Ames, Saturday night by a lea by Russ Land and Jerry Olson who had 13 and 15 points respectively. Over the season the Buffs have been getting good scor ing performances from three men; Gerry Cchroeder, Llnd. and Don Walker. Walker and Schroeder are tied for the scoring lead with 262 points, while Lind has 207 for a 10.8 scoring average. The Coloradoans ar cur rently in undisputed posses sion of second place In the Big Eight with a 7-3 record. Nebraska's indoor track men returned to the winning circle, Saturday, with a 68 to 54 victory over Oklahoma State at Memorial Satdium. Three stadium records fell during the afternoon. Ken Pollard of Nebraska erased Don Cooper's 8-year old record in the pole vault with a vault ot 14 feet 6 inches. Cooper's old record was 14'-5". Second Try j Pollard's record-breaking vault came on his 2nd vault at that height. Jim Kraft of Nebraska hit a personal high with a vault of 13 feet 84 inches, for 3rd place. Pollard also picked up 2nd place in the low hurdles. Joe Mullins of Nebraska broke his week-old record in the 1000-yd. run with a win ning time of 2:16.9. Mullins set the old record a week ago at 2:17.8 against Okla homa and Colorado. Mullins also defeated Miles Eisenman, Oklahoma Stale's outstanding distance runner, by six yards in the mile with a 4:17.4 clocking. Joe Amer ican Horse of Nebraska was second with a time of 9:36, a personal record. Sweep Broad Jump Nebraska swept the broad jump and finished 1-2 in the shot put, low hurdles and 880-yd. run. Bob Knaub, Bob Lammel and Don Phillips fin ished one-two-three respect ively in the broad jump. Only one inch separated Knaub's winning leap of 23 feet 1 inches and Lammel's 2nd place jump. Knaub picked up another first place finish in the' low hurdles with Pollard running second. Knaub's winning time was :07.1. Al Wellman and Don Nel son gave Nebraska first and second in the shot put. Well man's winning toss was 46 feet 8 inches. Barnes Wins 880 Knolly Barnes of Nebraska won the 880-yd. run with a slow time of 2:00.4. He was followed by Ken Ash of Ne braska and Kent Metcalf of Oklahoma State. SIDELIGHTS: Jim Gra ham one of Oklahoma State's top hurdlers did not make the trip because of a chest in jury. The distinction as, "most persistent performer of tjie afternoon," must go to Au- j brey Dooley of Oklahoma State. He cleared 14 feet in the pole vault before being eliminated, but he was still practicing long after the meet was over. He cleared 14 feet 9 inches after nearly everyone had gone home, but there were a few people stayed to watch him until he finally left. Kraft Injurys Hand Jim Kraft injured his hand slightly as he cleared 13 feet ZM inches in the pole vaul and failed to make the next height.
