Chairman to Take Illinois Post y Nondra Whalen death Boyd Carter, professor of romance languages for the past 13 years, is resigning irom uie university staff. His resignation becomes effective Sept. 1, 1959, when he leaves to become a profes sor of romance languages at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, 111. D. at an I the University of Illinois in his Courses Added To Curriculum The Faculty Senate offi cially approved 23 new Uni versity courses in their meet ing Tuesday. Paul Meadows, professor of sociology who presented the report of the committee on duplication of courses, said this was about the same num ber as was approved last year. Changes in title, course de scription or prerequisites for 50 courses was also approved by the Senate. Eleven courses were dropped from the Uni versity curriculum. Mrs. Irma Lasse, assistant registrar, stated that many of the courses were dropped to meet the needs of the changing times and to keep the curriculum constantly up to date. He is co-author of four mod ern language texts and has written two books about Man uel Gutierrez Najera, Mexi co's most famous poet. Eight. months' research in Mexico resulted in three books and several activities. Two of the books will appear in Mexico sometime next year. "Most of my research was made possible through the University Research Coun cil," Carter explained.
