The Cornhuskers swept the meet in points by taking every first place and all but one second place. The victory-hungry Huskers also swam for two more Nebr. records. 400-yard medley re lay members: Jack Fair, Joe Stocker, Larry McClean, and Roger BoSveld combined to break the Nebr. record in this event by more than five sec onds. Stocker came back later to post a new mark of 2:39.5 in the 200-yard breast-stroke. These two new records make a total of four records that the Huskers have broken in their first two outings. Trie Daily Nebroskon Eager Huskers Host Texas Tech Red Raiders Tonight Bushmen After Fourth Win Following Gopher Loss By Randall Lambert Nebraska and Texas Tech, two formerly undefeated teams, will try to get on the winning trail again when tangle at the Coliseum to night at 8:05. Nebraska was beaten Saturday night 78-57 by Minnesota and the Texans were beaten by the Iowa Hawkeyes after leading the Hawks 37-36 at the half. The Red Raiders of Texas Tech, who bowed to the Huskers 69-63 in an -overtime three years ago, are re garded as one of the teams to beat in the Southwest Con ference. Last year the Raid ers finished in third place only a game out of first Starting Nebraska Albert Maxey (6-3) Jim Kowalke (6-3) Bob Harry (6-6) Herschel Turner (6-2) Wayne Hester (6-2) Big Eight Roundup Buffs Continue To In Non Conference Colorado, . lightly regarded at the beginning of the sea- son has been one of the sur prises in the Big Eight. Although Coach Sox Wal seth figured this year's team to be better than last years, he didn't think they would rise to the heights they have thus far. Soph Quits Much of the teams success was figured to tie carried by 6-9 sophomore center Bill Wrage. Practice had barely started when Wrage dropped out of school. To put the frosting on the cake, the Buffs lost their first game to the Iowa Hawkeyes 67-46. , However, since then things have turned for the better. The Coloradans returned to their home court to whip Washington twice. The Buffs were extended into overtime in both contests as they won 60-53 and 59-51. Washington is figured to be the team to beat on the Pacific Coast. They continued their win ning ways as' they walked over Montana, who was also beaten by Nebraska, and beat a good Air Force team, 52-44, Saturday night. Good Mileage Coach Sox Walseth got ex cellent mileage last weekend from his Buffs who parlayed a scrappy man-for-man de fense and effective fast breaking for the double win This season the Texans had whipped three straight opponents before falling be fore Iowa. One of their wins was over Oklahoma on the Sooners home court by a 73 64 count. The Sooners beat Minnesotat at Minneapolis 52-45 last Thursday night. Seven Return The Texas team has seven returning alternate starters back from a team that com piled a 15-8 record last year. Add to this 6-9 sophomore Harold Hudgens and you have a strong combination able to go with the best. Backcourt the Red Raiders are quarterbacked by Gerald Myers, an all-conference Lineups Texas Tech f (6-4) Gene Arrington f (6-6) Leon Hill c (6-9) Pat Noakes g (5-10) Gerald Myers g (6-2) Charlie Lynch , over Washington's towering j ana nigniy-regaraea nuies followed by a Monday rout of Montana. The latter ruined the homecoming of Montana Coach Frosty Cox who guid ed the Buffs from 1935-50. Admittedly not a hot-shooting club, the Buffaloes are quality in the shot depart ment, keeping up a steady barrage triggered by a hustl ing set of little guards who press and run effectively. The team pumped up 77- 65 and 87 shots in their three home games. That was 39 more than their foes put up and enabled the Buffs to sweep despite unspectacular shoot ing percentages of 32.5, 30.8 and 37.9. The latter figure was padded considerably by a number of lay-ups against a porous Montana defense in the closing 10 minutes. Go ing into the half, the Buffs were hitting at but- 31 per cent against the Grizzlies. Actually, the Buffs' early season performances thus far somewhat bear out Wal seth's pre-season appraisal of his club. Walseth Says "We know we're not the greatest shooters in the world," he comments. "But we also know that we can play good defense and that we can run and we can bat tle. We're not going to worry about shooting percentages. We'll concentrate on keeping choice last season. Teamed with Myers is Charlie Lynch, who against Iowa hit 14 points. The post is manned by Pat Noakes, a junior who was hampered somewhat by in juries last .season. Noakes, who is 6-9, will be backed up by Hudgens. Leading Scorer The front court men are Gene Arrington and Leon Hill. Hill, who stands 6-6, was also an all-conference choice last year. He led the team in scoring with a 16.8 average and rebounds last year. Arrington, who stretches the tape at 6-4, started the season slow last year, but came along fast towards the end. Arrington was high scorer against Io wa with 20 points. The Texas Tech team shoots real well and is tough Surprise Contests the defensive pressure on a team and running as much as we can. This team is run ning its offense well and playing that defense real tight. I'm very well pleased at the way they've started. Surprise of the Buffs thus far has been the play of jun ior Guard Russ Lind, the ringleader in the. team's har rying defense and a good man on a fast break. Lind scrambled for five points in the overtime period to lead the initial win over Washing' ton, led an early assault which sacked up the second triumph over the Huskies, then led Buff scorers with 12 against Montana. He was a non-lettering squad member a year ago as a sophomore but took over a starting job after the first Huskie game. Guard Gerry Schroeder is off to his finest scoring start in three years as a regular with 68 points not counting tne af game highlighted by a 27-point Saturday game against Washington. Center Don Walker has re bounded and tallied effective' ly. He out-scored Washing ton s All - American candi dates Bruno Boin and Doug Smart both nights despite giving away lots of height to both. A good positional and defensive pivot, Walker could provide a big spark for the Buffs if he continues to score, Basketball Big 8 Minnesota 78 NEBRASKA 57 Indiana 87 Missouri 72 Kan.
