jqe 4 The Daily Nebroskan Monday, December 8, 1958 Sladio-TV 'Field Days' To Start Professional "field days will be held by the University school of journalism and ra dio stations KFOR and KLIN for all students currently en rolled in radio journalism. The students will work un der the direction of the pro fessional staffs of the two Lin coln stations, according to John Dooley, bead of the jour nalism school's radio and tele vision courses. Two Days Chosen Bob Jeambey, news direc tor of KFOR, and KLIN news director John Hanlon will add the J-School students to their staffs on two days during De cember,, today and the 15th. Students going to KFOR to day are Bob Wlrz, Jack Rogers, Dixie Helms, Bob Martel and Fred Gibbs. On the 15th, Mel Henning, Dan Lutz, Marcia Raye and George Raymer will go to KLIN. Working under Hanlon and Jeambey, the students will write, report and do special events coverage for the two stations through the assigned days. Tine Start Dr. William Hall, direc tor of the School of Journal ism, called the "field days" a "fine start toward the first rate professional program we hope to build in radio and television journalism at the University." Hall commended the Lincoln stations for their cooperation in the program and said plans call for the extension of the professional field days to ra dio and television stations throughoutsNebraska. Architecture Gets Tile Grant The college of architecture has received a $750 grant from the Tile Council of America. One of seven In the nation to receive such a grant, the University will use $500 for scholarships to architectural students. The remaining $250 is a stipend to the department. The grant will be given an nually for three years. The selections were based on the "relative standing of the school, or department ana its plans for. improvement in the future," the Tile Council said. THE STRANGE WORLD flR. Alma Hauermann, a junior in the College of Agriculture, was awarded her scholarship by the Colgate-Palmolive Company. Miss Hauermann has served as president of the Home Ec onomics club and is a mem ber of Phi Upsilon Omicron, national home economics honorary. Choristers Head Ag Concert List The Choristers will be fea tured at the annual Ag Christ mas Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 in the College Activities Gym. The Concert program will range from "Bach" to the "Night Before Christmas." The Choristers is a select singing group from the Ag College Chorus. The chorus wiil be assisted this year by the University of Nebraska Brass Ensemble. No admission will be charged. The event is co sponsored by Ag Exec Board and Ag Student Union. The selection of the Uni versity associate dean as a panel member was an nounced by the American Association for the Advance- mnt of Science, which is as sisting the NSF in the selec' tion of the panel. The panel will meet in Washington in February. A professor of secondary education, Dr. Wise is also deputy University research administrator. Approximately 750 summer fellowships wil be awarded for the summer of 1959 to secondary teachers of science and mathematics by the NSF. The program is part of the Foundation's effort to help improve the teaching of sci ence and mathematics at this level of instruction. Grossan Makes Concert Trip Jack Crossan, assistant pro fessor of piano, appeared this weekend with lyric soprano Dorothy Warenskjold in con certs in Maryland and Ohio. Crossan also has made a record album with Miss War enskjold. She has been a star of opera, radio and television since 1950. Before joining the Univer sity staff in 1957, Crossan toured the U.S. and Canada from 1953-55 as accompanist for Miss Warenskjold. He also has been an accompanist for John Carles Thomas and Igor Gorin on extended tours. The University associate professor of voice will play King Balthazar in the annual program. The hour-long pre sentation will be given from New York City at 4 p.m. on the Pontiac Playhouse and will be carried over Channel 3, KMTV. Lishner will also appear with the NBC Opera company in 15 performances of the opera, to be given in various cities during the holiday sea son. He has appeared with the NBC-TV Opera company each Christmas season since 1951, when the premier perform ance was given. Yuletide Bazaar Planned by YW A Christmas bazaar, spon sored by the University Y.W.C.A., will be held next week in Rosa Bouton Hall. As a fund-raising project, the girls will sell gifts im ported from other countries, such as carved lighters, Nor wegian egg cups, figurines, and handicraft items that members of the organization have made, such as end pil lows, kissing rings, headache bands and octopii. The bazaar will begin Mon day evening and will be held from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, according to chairman Betty James. In ternational students will be on hand each afternoon at 3 p.m. to discuss Christmas customs in their native lnads. j Lamb Judgers Win at Chicago A University judging team won first place honors in lamb judging at the Intercollegiate Meats Judging contest at Chi cago, 111. The team' placed 15th out of 25 entries in the overall con test. Texas A&M was first place winner. Lloyd Langemeier was sec ond high individual in the lamb judging division. Members of the University team are Robert Dannert, Darrel Zessin, alternate James Ray, and Langemeier.
