Big Eight Roundup
Big 8 Defending
K-State
By Randall Lambert
Height, experience, and
speed best describe the Kan
sas State Wildcats, defending
Big Eight champions.
The Wildcats, who made it
to the NCAA semifinals last
year, will be a strong favorite
to capture the Big Eight
championship for the second
year in a row.
Height
While the Wildcats can't
match the height of 1957-58's
big front line, two of the big
gest return Bob Boozer (6-8!
and Wally Frank (6-8). Coach
Tex Winter will probably
keep both in the lineup at the
same time, which should give
the Cats plenty of rebound
power.
The Wildcats have three
regulars returning. This in

Returning to the frontline
for the Wildcats will be the
two big boys, Boozer and
Frank. Boozer will probably
be at center most of the time.
Last year Boozer played the
post some of the time, but
generally he was a forward.
Boozer reaped many All

several K-State records. In

Punting
As usual, the Husker's punt
ing was outstanding and kept
things from being even worse.
George Harshman punted five
course, do not include those
names given to them by their
opponents.
AH-American center Bob
Harrison is sometimes called
"Hock" because he was once
careless enough to say it was
his ambition to coach the
Hockday Girls' School of Dal
las, Texas.
Wilkinson is "The Tall,
Grayhaired Man" and line
coach Corner Jones is "The
Little Round Man." Trainer
Ken Rawlinson is "Pusher"
because when he squirted
spirits of peppermint into the
Sooners' mouths during a nationally-televised
bowl game,
an imaginative eastern mag
azine writer wrote that Raw
linson was giving the Sooners
narcotics.

times for a 43.2 average,
while Harry Tolly punted
twice for a 32.3 average.
Another significant thing
about Nebraska's punting was
the ability of Don Fricke, Joe
Ponseigo, and others to get
down under the punts and pre
vent Sooner runbacks.
The Sooners only were able
to return three of eight punts
and th three that were re
turned were for little yard
age. Bob Cornell returned one
for five yards, the best re
turn of the day. The other two
were taken byscatbacks
Jimmy Carpenter and Jackie
Holt. Carpenter got three
yards and Holt only went a
yard with his only return.
The Oklahoma loss was the
seventh suffered by the Husk
ers. This ran the season rec
ord to 3-7.
