Requirements for the hon orary include a 7.5 accumu lative average or above for the freshman year, or a 7.5 average for one semester. The girls will be initiated Nov. 18. '. No Overnights Needed for Trek Students attending the Nebraska-Colorado game in Boulder will not be charged with an out-of-town overnight, AWS reports. The weekend allows women students to be gone Friday and Saturday nights only. Pershing Members Assemble Five members of the Na tional Headquorters of Persh ing Rifles at the University are attending the national as sembly which began Thurs day at the University of Colo rado. ' Students attending the as sembly are Pat Kuncl, na tional -commander; Robert Maran, national chief of staff; Stanley Fonken, national ad jutant; Fred Howlett, opera tions officer; and Judson Douglas, logistics officer. The group will be accompanied by Lt. Col. Arthur Dean, assist ant professor of military sci ence and tactics. Plans will be made for the operation of the national soci ety for the coming year and the national constitution will be rewritten. The convention will end Saturday. Pilot Bes Go to 12 Cadets Twelve University ROTC cadets selected for flight training were presented ROTC Pilot Badges Thursday. Dr. A. C. Breckenridge, dean of faculties, presented the awards. The flight train ing will consist of 35 hours of ground instruction and 33 hours of flying instruction. Students successfully com pleting the flight training w;il receive a private pilot's li cense from the Civil Aeronau tics Administration. He was cited for his service t o research, professional workers, students and farm ers. He is a soil conservation ist for the Agricultural Re search Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Throughout his career, Dr. Duley has authored or co authored eight research bul letins, 14 other bulletins and some 56 journal articles. Dr. Duley's soil research work was called "a basis for setting up runoff and erosion control experiments through out the country," by D. E. Hutchinson, state soil conservationist. Accelerated Math Accepts 22 Students Twenty two students will take a special "speeded-up course" in mathematics at the University. Top Students The students, selected from are believed to b the "cream of the crop." They entered the course by invitation of the department. j In selecting the students, j the department sent a letter to each of 550 Nebraska high instructors to recommend qualified students. About 100 names were received from this method. An additional 50 students were selected from those en tering freshmen who attained high scores on the general placement examination. This combined group was given examinations in algebra and trigonometry, and the 22 were selected. Course . Work The course will cover ma terial in analytic geometry ! and calculus in three semes ters in a more rigorous man- the 2,100 entering freshmen, ner than Is normally covered in four for other students. Material In logic and set theory will be introduced. This course is an effort to better students in mathemat ics as undergraduates, said Dr. Walter Mientka, assistant professor of mathematics.
