Seven states will be repre
sented in the starting lineup
for weDrasKa s freshman foot
ballers Friday afternoon,
when the Husker yearlings
square off against Iowa State
at Ames.
Three Minnesotans QB
Ron Meade, Canby, RG Al
Fischer, Princeton, and RE
Roger Cole, Granite Falls
are slated to open Friday.
A pair of Ohians LG Pete
Williams and Bill Slacas,
Cleveland will be on the
field for the opening kickoff.
Lexington Grads
Two Lexington graduates
are the Nebraskans ticketed
for opening duty. They are
LH Dallas Dyer and RT Mon
te Kiffin.
The first unit will boast a
team average of 200 pounds.
They scale 214 from tackle-to-tackle,
210 in the line and
180 in the backfield. '
A traveling squad of 54
players was announced today
by Coach Warren Schmakel.
They will leave Lincoln by
bus at 6:45 a.m. Friday, stop
ping enroute at Denison, la.
for a pre-game meal at 10:00
a.m., and will arrive in Ames
at 1:00 p.m.
They will return to Lincoln
following the game, arriving
at about 11:30 p.m.

A new intramural football
champion was assured as
first round tournament action
got under ,way. Defending
title holder, Sigma Phi Ep
silon, was ousted in the single
elimination tourney by Sigma
Nil 15-13.
The game went into the
last period with the Sig Eps
leading 6-2.
The teams exchanged touch
downs, and the score stood at
13-9 the Sig Eps still leading
with only three plays remain
ing In the game and Sigma
Nu in possession of the ball.
Bob Sullivan, who ha-d
scored the first Sigma Nu
touchdown, backed , up and
fired a desperation pass some
50 yards into the arms of
Tom Mathews to cinch the
victory and upend the two
time champion Sig Eps.
In other tournament action
the Betas won handily over
Sigma Chi 34-13. They will
face Sigma Nu late ron this
week.

an injured, but spirited squad
this week end.

to the Student Health with a
case of bronchitis.
