The addition of 20 more boys than ever before accepted is the big change in this year's Cornhusker Boys State which will be held on the University campus June 15-21. Warren E. Baker of Lincoln, office manager for Boys State, says 324 applications have been accepted for the 18th annual event sponsored by the American Legion De partment of Nebraska. The previous high was 304 and Baker said the total membership will continue to climb whenever more facili ties are made available. This year's addition is due to the completion of Burr Hall the new men's dormitory on Ag Campus. Still, some 30 ap plications had to be refused, High school juniors from all but four of Nebraska s 93 counties will be in attendance when the convention opens. Of the four counties not rep resented three do not have American Legion posts. In membership this year will be boys from 261 differ ent towns in the state. This also is a record. The boys will again be di vided Into eight towns making up two counties. There will also be two political parties, the "Federalists" and "Na tionalists," present. Earlv in the week elections will be held to select officers for state, county and city of fices. The primary and gen eral elections take place much the same as in regular state and local elections. The boys sDend much of their time campaigning and this is one of the most interesting events of the week, Baker said. After the officers have been selected morning and early afternoon hours will be spent debating and working on prob lems which confront our gov ernment officers. This gives the boys a chance i for traning in citizenship and: an opportunity to look at cut-. ferent forms of government, ; the manager stated. i This is the real purpose of Boys State. I l,ate afternoon and evening j hours give the boys a chance; to participate in sports and' other planned activities.
